Claims
- 1. A method for treating skin conditions selected from the group consisting of lack of skin firmness, wrinkles, lack of dermal hydration and insufficient sebum secretion which comprises administering to a patient by oral or parenteral means an effective amount of a compound of the formula: ##STR11## where R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 represent hydrogen or when taken together R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 represent a carbon-carbon double bond or a carbon-carbon triple bond, Z represents hydrogen, hydroxy or protected-hydroxy, R.sub.3 represents hydrogen, hydroxy, protected-hydroxy or an alkyl group, X and Y which may be the same or different, are hydrogen or a hydroxy-protecting group, R.sub.1 represents the group --(CH.sub.2).sub.q --H and R.sub.2 represents the group --(CH.sub.2).sub.p --H, and where n, q and p are integers having independently the values of 1 to 5 with the proviso that at least one of n, q and p is greater than 1, and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 when taken together represent the group --(CH.sub.2).sub.m -- where m is an integer having the value of 2 to 5 and with the further proviso that when q or p is 2 or more, n cannot be 1, and when q and p are both 1, n cannot be 2.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxy-22-dehydrovitamin D.sub.3.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxy-22-dehydrovitamin D.sub.3.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 26,27-dimethyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxy-22-dehydrovitamin D.sub.3.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 26,27-dimethyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxy-22-dehydrovitamin D.sub.3.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 26,27-diethyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxy-22-dehydrovitamin D.sub.3.
- 7. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 26,27-diethyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxy-22-dehydrovitamin D.sub.3.
- 8. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 26,27-dipropyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxy-22-dehydrovitamin D.sub.3.
- 9. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 26,27-dipropyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxy-22-dehydrovitamin D.sub.3.
- 10. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 11. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 12. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 26,27-dimethyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 13. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 26,27-dimethyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 14. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 26,27-diethyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 15. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 26,27-diethyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 16. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 26,27-dipropyl-24-dihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 17. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound is 26,27-dipropyl-24-trihomo-1.alpha.,25-dihydroxyvitamin D.sub.3.
- 18. The method of claim 1 wherein said effective amount comprises about 0.1 .mu.g/day to about 25 .mu.g/day of said compound.
