Claims
- 1. A method for treating an ocular disease in a subject, the method comprising administering into the eye of a subject, a pharmaceutical composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of a collectin.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said collectin is a tear surfactant protein.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein said ocular disease is dry eye.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein said ocular disease is caused by a microbe.
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein said microbe is a bacterial, viral, fungal, or protozoan pathogen.
- 6. The method of claim 5, wherein said microbe is a gram-negative bacterium.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein said gram-negative bacterium is Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
- 8. The method of claim 1, wherein said ocular disease is keratitis.
- 9. The method of claim 1, wherein said subject is a contact-lens wearer.
- 10. The method of claim 1, wherein said collectin is applied topically.
- 11. The method of claim 1, further comprising administering a second therapeutic agent to said subject.
- 12. An ophthalmic composition comprising a collectin and a liquid aqueous medium compatible with application to a mammalian eye.
- 13. The ophthalmic composition of claim 12, wherein said composition is an artificial tear composition.
- 14. The ophthalmic composition of claim 12, wherein said composition is for storing, cleaning, re-wetting, or disinfecting a contact lens.
- 15. The ophthalmic composition of claim 12, wherein said collectin is a tear surfactant protein.
- 16. An antimicrobial lens comprising a collectin.
- 17. The lens of claim 16, wherein said collectin is a tear surfactant protein.
- 18. The lens of claim 16, wherein said lens is a contact lens.
- 19. A kit for the treatment of a subject having an ocular disease, the kit comprising a pharmaceutical composition comprising a collectin and instructions for the administration of the collectin.
- 20. A method for treating an ocular disease in a subject, the method comprising administering into the eye of a subject, a pharmaceutical composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of a surfactant protein.
- 21. An ophthalmic composition comprising a surfactant protein and a liquid aqueous medium compatible with application to a mammalian eye.
- 22. An antimicrobial lens comprising a surfactant protein.
