Claims
- 1. A method of harvesting a length of blood vessel comprising the following steps:
- exposing a proximal end of the length of blood vessel through an incision;
- placing a balloon over at least a portion of the blood vessel such that the balloon circumferentially envelopes the portion of the blood vessel;
- inflating the balloon;
- ligating and dividing side branches of the blood vessel;
- severing the vessel at the proximal end;
- severing the vessel at a distal end of the length of vessel; and
- removing the length of vessel from the body.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said balloon is an everting balloon and inflation of the balloon causes the balloon to evert and to advance along the blood vessel thereby enveloping the blood vessel.
- 3. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of anchoring the proximal end of the length of vessel.
- 4. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of anchoring the proximal end of the length of the vessel using a grasper.
- 5. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of inserting a balloon into the proximal end of the length of vessel and inflating the balloon to hold the vessel.
- 6. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of anchoring the proximal end of the length of vessel using forceps.
- 7. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of anchoring the proximal end of the length of vessel using a tool inserted through a central lumen of said balloon.
- 8. The method of claim 1 wherein said step of severing the proximal end of the length of vessel is performed prior to the step of placing the balloon.
- 9. A method of harvesting a length of blood vessel comprising the following steps:
- exposing a proximal end of the length of blood vessel through an incision;
- placing an everting balloon proximate the proximal end of the length of blood vessel;
- inflating the balloon causing the balloon to evert and to circumferentially envelop a portion of the blood vessel;
- ligating and dividing side branches of the blood vessel;
- severing the vessel at the proximal end;
- severing the vessel at the distal end of the length of vessel; and
- removing the length of vessel from the body.
- 10. The method of claim 9 further comprising the step of anchoring the proximal end of the length of vessel.
- 11. The method of claim 9 further comprising the step of anchoring the proximal end of the length of vessel using a grasper.
- 12. The method of claim 9 further comprising the step of inserting a balloon into the proximal end of the length of vessel and inflating the balloon to hold the vessel.
- 13. The method of claim 9 further comprising the step of anchoring the proximal end of the length of vessel using forceps.
- 14. The method of claim 9 further comprising the step of anchoring the proximal end of the length of vessel using a tool inserted through a central lumen of said balloon.
- 15. The method of claim 9 wherein said step of severing the proximal end of the length of vessel is performed prior to the step of placing the everting balloon.
