Claims
- 1. A device for at least partially sealing an aneurysm, comprising:
a first elongate member having a distal end; a bridge positioned proximate the distal end and transformable between a delivery configuration and a deployed configuration; and a second elongate member that is movable relative the first elongate member, the first and second elongate members being configured such that one can be moved relative the other in order to transform the bridge between the delivery and deployed configurations.
- 2. The device of claim 1, further comprising a detachment point located on the first elongate member in a position that is proximally located relative to the bridge.
- 3. The device of claim 1, wherein the bridge is detachably connected to the first elongate member.
- 4. The device of claim 1, wherein the bridge is detachable so as to be implantable within the aneurysm, wherein after the bridge has been implanted, it is independent from the second elongate member and at least a substantial portion of the first elongate member.
- 5. The device of claim 1, wherein when the bridge is in the delivery configuration it is circumferentially disposed around the first elongate member proximate the distal end.
- 6. The device of claim 1, wherein the first elongate member is slidably received within the second elongate member.
- 7. The device of claim 1, wherein the bridge comprises a NiTi hypotube having a plurality of slots formed therein.
- 8. The device of claim 1, wherein when the bridge is in the deployed configuration it forms a plurality of petal-like features.
- 9. The device of claim 1, wherein when the bridge is in the deployed configuration it forms a plurality of protruding members that extend from, and are radially disposed around, the first elongate member.
- 10. The device of claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the first elongate member is coated with an insulation layer of material.
- 11. The device of claim 1, further comprising a detachment zone of material proximally located relative to the bridge and the distal end of the first elongate member.
- 12. The device of claim 11, wherein the detachment zone of material is a GDC detachment zone.
- 13. A device for at least partially sealing an aneurysm comprising:
a first elongate member having a proximal end, a distal end and an elongated length therebetween; a clip assembly attached proximate to the distal end of the first elongate member and having a clip that is moveable between a first position and a second position; and a bridge positioned proximate to the clip assembly and expandable between a delivery configuration when the clip is in the first position, and a deployed configuration when the clip is in the second position.
- 14. The device of claim 13 wherein the bridge is circumferentially disposed around the clip assembly when the bridge is in the delivery configuration and the clip is in the first position.
- 15. The device of claim 13 wherein the bridge is made from a NiTi hypotube.
- 16. The device of claim 13 wherein when the bridge is in the deployed configuration it forms a plurality of petal-like features.
- 17. The device of claim 13 wherein the bridge includes a plurality of slots formed therein.
- 18. The device of claim 13 wherein the clip assembly comprises:
a tube having a slot formed therein; and an extension piece that extends through the slot when the clip is in the second position and is retracted within the tube when the clip is in the first position.
- 19. The device of claim 13 wherein the bridge comprises a plurality of radially arranged slots when the bridge is in the delivery configuration.
- 20. The device of claim 18 wherein a portion of the extension piece is attached within the tube.
- 21. The device of claim 13 wherein at least a portion of the first elongate member is coated with an insulation layer.
- 22. The device of claim 13 further comprising a detachment zone of material proximally located relative to the clip.
- 23. The device of claim 22 wherein the detachment zone of material has a length within the range of 0.004″ and 0.007″.
- 24. The device of claim 22 wherein the detachment zone of material comprises stainless steel.
- 25. The device of claim 22 wherein the detachment zone of material is a GDC detachment zone.
- 26. The device of claim 13 further comprising:
a second elongate member having a proximal end, a distal end and an elongated length there between, the first elongate member is slideablly received within second elongate member; and wherein the second elongate member is configured to move the bridge form the delivery configuration to the deployed configuration when one of the first or second elongate members is slid relative to the other.
- 27. A device to at least partially seal a neck of aneurysm, comprising:
a first elongate member having a proximal end and a distal end and an elongated length therebetween; an aneurysm neck bridge releasably connected to the distal end of the first elongate member at a connection point, the aneurysm neck bridge having a proximal end and a distal end, the aneurysm neck bridge comprising:
a first array having a deployed configuration and a delivery configuration, the first array formed proximate the distal end of the aneurysm neck bridge; and a second array having a deployed configuration and a delivery configuration, the second array formed proximate the proximal end of the aneurysm neck bridge.
- 28. The device of claim 27 further comprising:
a second elongate member having a proximal end and a distal end and an elongated length therebetween, the first elongate being slideablly received within second elongate member.
- 29. The device of claim 28 wherein the first and second array are configured to transform such that they are in the delivery configuration when contained within the second elongate member and are in the deployed configuration when outside the second elongate member is removed.
- 30. The device of claim 27 wherein the aneurysm neck bridge is comprised of a single length of tubing.
- 31. The device of claim 30 wherein the single length of tubing comprises shape memory material.
- 32. The device of claim 31 wherein the shape memory material is heatset material.
- 33. The device of claim 30 wherein the first array and the second array include a plurality of slots formed therein.
- 34. The device of claim 28 wherein the second elongate member is a microcatheter.
- 35. The device of claim 27 wherein the second array is at least partially covered in a non-porous elastomeric material.
- 36. The device of claim 27 wherein the connection point is a GDC detachment zone.
- 37. The device of claim 36 wherein the bridge is released by an electrical charge at the GDC detachment zone.
- 38. A method of at least partially obstructing a neck of an aneurysm, comprising the steps of:
providing an obstruction device that includes a two array bridge having a collapsed configuration and a deployed configuration, the two array bridge being connected to a distal end of an elongate member at a connection point; navigating the elongate member through a parent vessel such that the two array bridge is positioned proximate the neck of the aneurysm; deploying a first array of the two array bridge inside the aneurysm; and deploying a second array of the two array bridge outside the aneurysm.
- 39. The method of claim 38, further comprising:
detaching the two array bridge from the elongate member at the connection point.
- 40. The method of claim 39 further comprising:
removing the elongate member from the parent vessel.
- 41. The method of claim 39 further comprising the step of:
prior to detaching the two array bridge, at least partially filling the aneurysm with a material.
- 42. The method of claim 41 wherein at least partially filling the aneurysm with a material comprises at least partially filling the aneurysm with a plurality of coils.
- 43. The method of claim 38 wherein prior to deploying the first or second array, the bridge is engaged within a delivery tube.
- 44. The method of claim 43 wherein the step of deploying the first array comprises:
retracting the delivery tube or advancing the elongate member such that the first array emerges from a distal end of the delivery tube.
- 45. The method of claim 44, wherein the step of deploying the second array comprises:
further retracting the delivery tube or advancing the elongate member such that the second array emerges from the distal end of the delivery tube.
- 46. The method of claim 39, wherein detaching the two array bridge from the elongate member at the connection point comprises applying an electrical charge to a detachment zone of dissolvable material.
