Claims
- 1. A method for producing software reliability and availability metrics of at least one target computing device, the method comprising:
collecting software application event data from the target computing device; analyzing the event data; producing software application reliability and availability data as state sojourns; and computing reliability and availability metrics based, at least in part, on the reliability and availability data state sojourns.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein collecting comprises identifying at least one target computing device from which the event data are to be collected.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein identifying comprises selecting target computing devices from more than one network domain.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein collecting comprises specifying particular event data to be collected from the target computing device.
- 5. The method of claim 4 wherein specifying comprises selecting a time period for which the event data are to be collected.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein collecting comprises uploading the event data to a repository.
- 7. The method of claim 1 wherein collecting comprises collecting event data from a plurality of computing devices in parallel.
- 8. The method of claim 1 wherein collecting comprises collecting event data from a plurality of computing devices in series.
- 9. The method of claim 1 wherein collecting comprises collecting event data from an application log.
- 10. The method of claim 1 wherein producing the reliability and availability data comprises producing:
an application state; a time associated with when the application state was entered; and a time associated with when the application state was exited.
- 11. The method of claim 10 wherein producing the reliability and availability data further comprises producing:
an event associated with the application state; and a time associated with the event.
- 12. A computer-readable medium containing instructions for performing a method for producing software reliability and availability metrics of at least one target computing device, the method comprising:
collecting software application event data from the target computing device; analyzing the event data; producing software application reliability and availability data as state sojourns; and computing reliability and availability metrics based, at least in part, on the reliability and availability data state sojourns.
- 13. A system for analyzing software reliability and availability, the system comprising:
software application event data; an analysis engine configured to take the event data as input; and software application reliability and availability data produced by the analysis engine and based, at least in part, on the input software application event data.
- 14. A computer-readable medium containing instructions and data for a system for analyzing software reliability and availability, the system comprising:
software application event data; an analysis engine configured to take the event data as input; and software application reliability and availability data produced by the analysis engine and based, at least in part, on the input software application event data.
- 15. A method for reporting software reliability and availability, the method comprising:
accepting software application reliability and availability data; computing reliability and availability metrics from the reliability and availability data; generating reports of the reliability and availability metrics; and making the reports available for access.
- 16. The method of claim 15 wherein computing the reliability and availability data comprises computing:
an application state; a time associated with when the application state was entered; and a time associated with when the application state was exited.
- 17. The method of claim 16 wherein computing the reliability and availability data further comprises computing:
an event associated with the application state; and a time associated with the event.
- 18. The method of claim 15 wherein computing comprises selecting a time period for which the reliability and availability metrics are to be computed.
- 19. The method of claim 15 wherein generating comprises aggregating the reliability and availability metrics over a plurality of computing devices in parallel.
- 20. The method of claim 15 wherein generating comprises aggregating the reliability and availability metrics over a plurality of computing devices in series.
- 21. A computer-readable medium containing instructions for performing a method for reporting software reliability and availability, the method comprising:
accepting software application reliability and availability data; computing reliability and availability metrics from the reliability and availability data; generating reports of the reliability and availability metrics; and making the reports available for access.
- 22. A system for reporting software reliability and availability, the system comprising:
software application reliability and availability data; a reliability and availability metrics computing engine configured to take the reliability and availability data as input; reliability and availability metrics reports output from the computing engine based, at least in part, on the input reliability and availability data; and a report output mechanism.
- 23. A computer-readable medium containing instructions and data for a system for reporting software reliability and availability, the system comprising:
software application reliability and availability data; a reliability and availability metrics computing engine configured to take the reliability and availability data as input; reliability and availability metrics reports output from the computing engine based, at least in part, on the input reliability and availability data; and a report output mechanism.
