Claims
- 1. A method of operating a geophysical database containing data relating to underground structures, comprising the steps of:
storing said data in said geophysical database; and establishing a plurality of subscriptions, each subscription purchased by a subscriber, each subscription having associated with it access to said data; each of said plurality of subscriptions further having associated with it subscriber rights relating to updating said data in said geophysical database.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said subscriber rights include the right to submit at least one vote relating to updating said data.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein the quantity of said at least one vote comprises a plurality of votes.
- 4. The method of claim 3 wherein the quantity of said plurality of votes is determined by a subscription parameter selected from the group comprising: the cost of a subscription to a subscriber, the duration of a subscription and the number of user seats purchased by a subscriber.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein said subscriber rights include the right to participate on a committee of subscribers that submits requests to update said data to a system operator.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein a subscription is for a limited geographical area and said subscriber rights are limited to data updates in said limited geographical area.
- 7. The method of claim 1 and further including the step of considering said subscriber rights when determining to update said data in said geophysical database.
- 8. A system for operating a geophysical database containing data relating to underground structures, comprising:
a controller; a memory connected to said controller; said memory storing instructions operative with said controller to perform the steps of:
storing said data in said geophysical database; and identifying a plurality of subscriptions, each subscription purchased by a subscriber, each subscription having associated with it access to said data; each of said plurality of subscriptions further having associated with it subscriber rights relating to updating said data in said geophysical database.
- 9. The system of claim 8 wherein said subscriber rights include the right to submit at least one vote relating to updating said data.
- 10. The system of claim 9 wherein the quantity of said at least one vote comprises a plurality of votes.
- 11. The system of claim 10 wherein the quantity of said plurality of votes is determined by a subscription parameter selected from the group comprising: the cost of a subscription to a subscriber, the duration of a subscription and the number of user seats purchased by a subscriber.
- 12. The system of claim 8 wherein said subscriber rights include the right to participate on a committee of subscribers that submits requests to update said data to a system operator.
- 13. The system of claim 8 wherein a subscription is for a limited geographical area and said subscriber rights are limited to data updates in said limited geographical area.
- 14. The system of claim 8 and further including the step of considering said subscriber rights when determining to update said data in said geophysical database.
- 15. A system for operating a geophysical database containing data relating to underground structures, comprising:
means for storing said data in said geophysical database; and means for establishing a plurality of subscriptions, each subscription purchased by a subscriber, each subscription having associated with it access to said data; each of said plurality of subscriptions further having associated with it subscriber rights relating to updating said data in said geophysical database.
- 16. A computer program product, for use with a computer system, for operating a geophysical database, the computer program product comprising:
a computer-readable medium containing thereon instructions operative to control the operation of the computer system to perform the steps of:
storing said data in said geophysical database; and identifying a plurality of subscriptions, each subscription purchased by a subscriber, each subscription having associated with it access to said data; each of said plurality of subscriptions further having associated with it subscriber rights relating to updating said data in said geophysical database.
- 17. A method of operating a geophysical database containing data relating to underground structures, comprising the steps of:
storing said data in said geophysical database, said data for a total geographical area consisting of multiple shoots; establishing a plurality of subscriptions, each subscription purchased by a subscriber, each subscription for selected data from said total geographical area, each subscription having associated with it access to preview data and full data of said selected data; and each of said plurality of subscriptions further having associated with it subscriber rights relating to updating said data in said geophysical database.
- 18. The method of claim 17 wherein said subscriber rights include the right to submit at least one vote relating to updating said data.
- 19. The method of claim 18 wherein the quantity of said at least one vote comprises a plurality of votes.
- 20. The method of claim 19 wherein the quantity of said plurality of votes is determined by a subscription parameter selected from the group comprising: a cost of a subscription to a subscriber, the duration of a subscription and the number of user seats purchased by a subscriber.
- 21. The method of claim 17 wherein said subscriber rights include the right to participate on a committee of subscribers that submits requests to update said data to a system operator.
- 22. The method of claim 17 wherein said subscriber rights are limited to data updates in the geographical area covered by the selected data.
- 23. The method of claim 17 and further including the step of considering said subscriber rights when determining to update said data in said geophysical database.
- 24. A system for operating a geophysical database containing data relating to underground structures, comprising:
a controller; a memory connected to said controller; said memory storing instructions operative with said controller to perform the steps of:
storing said data in said geophysical database, said data for a total geographical area consisting of multiple shoots; establishing a plurality of subscriptions, each subscription purchased by a subscriber, each subscription for selected data from said total geographical area, each subscription having associated with it access to preview data and full data of said selected data; and each of said plurality of subscriptions further having associated with it subscriber rights relating to updating said data in said geophysical database.
- 25. The system of claim 24 wherein said subscriber rights include the right to submit at least one vote relating to updating said data.
- 26. The system of claim 25 wherein the quantity of said at least one vote comprises a plurality of votes.
- 27. The system of claim 26 wherein the quantity of said plurality of votes is determined by a subscription parameter selected from the group comprising: a cost of a subscription to a subscriber, the duration of a subscription and the number of user seats purchased by a subscriber.
- 28. The system of claim 24 wherein said subscriber rights include the right to participate on a committee of subscribers that submits requests to update said data to a system operator.
- 29. The system of claim 24 wherein said subscriber rights are limited to data updates in the geographical area covered by the selected data.
- 30. The system of claim 24 and further including the step of considering said subscriber rights when determining to update said data in said geophysical database.
- 31. A system for operating a geophysical database containing data relating to underground structures, comprising:
means for storing said data in said geophysical database, said data for a total geographical area consisting of multiple shoots; means for establishing a plurality of subscriptions, each subscription purchased by a subscriber, each subscription for selected data from said total geographical area, each subscription having associated with it access to preview data and full data of said selected data; and each of said plurality of subscriptions further having associated with it subscriber rights relating to updating said data in said geophysical database.
- 32. A computer program product, for use with a computer system, for operating a geophysical database, the computer program product comprising:
a computer-readable medium containing thereon instructions operative to control the operation of the computer system to perform the steps of:
storing said data in said geophysical database, said data for a total geographical area consisting of multiple shoots; and establishing a plurality of subscriptions, each subscription purchased by a subscriber, each subscription for selected data from said total geographical area, each subscription having associated with it access to preview data and full data of said selected data; each of said plurality of subscriptions further having associated with it subscriber rights relating to updating said data in said geophysical database.
- 33. A method of operating a geophysical database containing data relating to underground structures, comprising the steps of:
storing said data in said geophysical database, said data for a total geographical area including a plurality of shoots; identifying a plurality of users desiring access to said geophysical database; establishing for each of said plurality of users respective subscriptions to said geophysical database, each subscription for a respective predetermined period of time and for access to selected data from said total geographic area, each subscription including subscriber rights relating to the update of said data; receiving from each of said plurality of users, pursuant to the respective subscriber rights, respective information relating to updates to said data in said geophysical database; and determining to update at least one subset of data in said geophysical database responsive to said respective information from said users.
- 34. The method of claim 33 wherein said step of establishing for each of said plurality of users respective subscriptions includes collecting respective fees from said plurality of users.
- 35. The method of claim 33 wherein said subscriber rights include the right to submit at least one vote relating to an update of said data.
- 36. The method of claim 35 wherein the quantity of said at least one vote comprises a plurality of votes.
- 37. The method of claim 36 wherein the quantity of said plurality of votes is determined by a subscription parameter selected from the group comprising: a cost of a subscription to a subscriber, the duration of a subscription and the number of user seats purchased by a subscriber.
- 38. The method of claim 33 wherein said subscriber rights include the right to participate on a committee of subscribers that submits requests to update said data to a system operator.
- 39. The method of claim 33 wherein said subscriber rights are limited to data updates in the geographic area covered by the selected data.
- 40. The method of claim 33 where said step of determining to update at least one subset of data includes collecting information from at least one of the group comprising data collectors and data providers.
- 41. The method of claim 33 wherein said step of determining to update at least one subset of data includes considering the actual usage of said data by said plurality of users.
- 42. The method of claim 33 wherein said step of determining to update at least one subset of data includes considering factors from the group comprising: aggregate subscriber revenue, availability of data acquisition resources and independent market assessments relating to the value of geophysical data.
- 43. A system for operating a geophysical database containing data relating to underground structures, comprising:
a controller; a memory connected to said controller and storing instructions operative with said controller to perform the steps of:
storing said data in said geophysical database, said data for a total geographical area including a plurality of shoots; identifying a plurality of users desiring access to said geophysical database; identifying for each of said plurality of users respective subscriptions to said geophysical database, each subscription for a respective predetermined period of time and for access to selected data from said total geographic area, each subscription including subscriber rights relating to the update of said data; receiving from each of said plurality of users, pursuant to the respective subscriber rights, respective information relating to updates to said data in said geophysical database; and determining to update at least one subset of data in said geophysical database responsive to said respective information from said users.
- 44. The system of claim 43 wherein said step of establishing for each of said plurality of users respective subscriptions includes collecting respective fees from said plurality of users.
- 45. The system of claim 43 wherein said subscriber rights include the right to submit at least one vote relating to an update of said data.
- 46. The system of claim 45 wherein the quantity of said at least one vote comprises a plurality of votes.
- 47. The system of claim 46 wherein the quantity of said plurality of votes is determined by a subscription parameter selected from the group comprising: a cost of a subscription to a subscriber, the duration of a subscription and the number of user seats purchased by a subscriber.
- 48. The system of claim 43 wherein said subscriber rights include the right to participate on a committee of subscribers that submits requests to update said data to a system operator.
- 49. The system of claim 43 wherein said subscriber rights are limited to data updates in the geographic area covered by the selected data.
- 50. The system of claim 43 where said step of determining to update at least one subset of data includes collecting information from at least one of the group comprising data collectors and data providers.
- 51. The system of claim 43 wherein said step of determining to update at least one subset of data includes considering the actual usage of said data by said plurality of users.
- 52. The system of claim 43 wherein said step of determining to update at least one subset of data includes considering factors from the group comprising: aggregate subscriber revenue, availability of data acquisition resources and independent market assessments relating to the value of geophysical data.
- 53. A system for operating a geophysical database containing data relating to underground structures, comprising:
means for storing said data in said geophysical database, said data for a total geographical area including a plurality of shoots; means for identifying a plurality of users desiring access to said geophysical database; means for establishing for each of said plurality of users respective subscriptions to said geophysical database, each subscription for a respective predetermined period of time and for access to selected data from said total geographic area, each subscription including subscriber rights relating to the update of said data; means for receiving from each of said plurality of users, pursuant to the respective subscriber rights, respective information relating to updates to said data in said geophysical database; and means for determining to update at least one subset of data in said geophysical database responsive to said respective information from said users.
- 54. A computer program product, for use with a computer system, for operating a geophysical database, the computer program product comprising:
a computer-readable medium containing thereon instructions operative to control the operation of the computer system to perform the steps of:
storing said data in said geophysical database, said data for a total geographical area including a plurality of shoots; identifying a plurality of users desiring access to said geophysical database; establishing for each of said plurality of users respective subscriptions to said geophysical database, each subscription for a respective predetermined period of time and for access to selected data from said total geographic area, each subscription including subscriber rights relating to the update of said data; receiving from each of said plurality of users, pursuant to the respective subscriber rights, respective information relating to updates to said data in said geophysical database; and determining to update at least one subset of data in said geophysical database responsive to said respective information from said users.
- 55. A method of obtaining geophysical data relating to the hydrocarbon potential of underground structures, said method comprising the steps of:
obtaining a subscription to a geophysical database including access to geophysical data for a predetermined subscription period; and periodically submitting a request to be considered with other user requests for at least one update to said geophysical data.
- 56. The method of claim 55 wherein said step of obtaining a subscription includes paying a subscription fee.
- 57. The method of claim 55 wherein said request includes at least one vote relating to an update of said geophysical data.
- 58. The method of claim 57 wherein the quantity of said at least one vote comprises a plurality of votes.
- 59. The method of claim 58 wherein the quantity of said plurality of votes is determined by a subscription parameter selected from the group comprising: a cost of a subscription to a subscriber, the duration of a subscription and the number of user seats purchased by a subscriber.
- 60. The method of claim 55 wherein said request is submitted by participating on a committee of subscribers that submits requests to update said data to a system operator.
- 61. A system for obtaining geophysical data relating to the hydrocarbon potential of underground structures, comprising:
a controller; a memory connected to said controller and storing instructions operative with said controller to perform the steps of:
obtaining a subscription to a geophysical database including access to geophysical data for a predetermined subscription period; and periodically submitting a request to be considered with other user requests for at least one update to said geophysical data.
- 62. The system of claim 61 wherein said step of obtaining a subscription includes paying a subscription fee.
- 63. The system of claim 61 wherein said request includes at least one vote relating to an update of said geophysical data.
- 64. The system of claim 63 wherein the quantity of said at least one vote comprises a plurality of votes.
- 65. The system of claim 64 wherein the quantity of said plurality of votes is determined by a subscription parameter selected from the group comprising: a cost of a subscription to a subscriber, the duration of a subscription and the number of user seats purchased by a subscriber.
- 66. The system of claim 61 wherein said request is submitted by participating on a committee of subscribers that submits requests to update said data to a system operator.
- 67. A system for obtaining geophysical data relating to the hydrocarbon potential of underground structures, comprising:
means for obtaining a subscription to a geophysical database including access to geophysical data for a predetermined subscription period; and means for periodically submitting a request to be considered with other user requests for at least one update to said geophysical data.
- 68. A computer program product, for use with a computer system, for obtaining geophysical data relating to the hydrocarbon potential of underground structures, the computer program product comprising:
a computer-readable medium containing thereon instructions operative to control the operation of the computer system to perform the steps of:
obtaining a subscription to a geophysical database including access to geophysical data for a predetermined subscription period; and periodically submitting a request to be considered with other user requests for at least one update to said geophysical data.
- 69. A method of operating a geophysical database containing data relating to underground structures, comprising the steps of:
storing data in said geophysical database, said data from a plurality of shoots; identifying a plurality of users each desiring access to said geophysical database; collecting a respective fee from each of said plurality of users to establish for each of said plurality of users a respective subscription to said geophysical database; providing with each respective subscription access to respective subscriber data for use in assessing the hydrocarbon potential of underground structures; providing with each respective subscription a right to provide input on updates to said data; collecting from each of said plurality of subscribers a respective request to update said data; and updating, based on said respective requests and funded at least in part by the fees collected from said plurality of subscribers, the data in said geophysical database.
- 70. The method of claim 69 wherein said respective requests comprise votes.
- 71. The method of claim 70 wherein the quantity of votes cast by each subscriber is determined by a subscription parameter selected from the group comprising: a cost of a subscription to a subscriber, the duration of a subscription and the number of user seats purchased by a subscriber.
- 72. The method of claim 69 wherein said respective requests comprise requests from a subscriber committee.
- 73. The method of claim 69 where said step of updating includes collecting competitive bids from data providers.
- 74. The method of claim 69 wherein said step of updating includes selecting a geographical area to update based on subscriber usage of said data.
- 75. The method of claim 69 wherein said step of updating includes selecting a geographical area to update based on factors from the group comprising: aggregate subscriber revenue, availability of acquisition data resources and independent market assessments relating to the value of geophysical data.
- 76. A system for operating a geophysical database containing data relating to underground structures, comprising:
a controller; a memory connected to said controller and storing instructions operative with said controller to perform the steps of:
storing data in said geophysical database, said data from a plurality of shoots; identifying a plurality of users each desiring access to said geophysical database; storing a respective fee collected from each of said plurality of users to establish for each of said plurality of users a respective subscription to said geophysical database; providing with each respective subscription access to respective subscriber data for use in assessing the hydrocarbon potential of underground structures; providing with each respective subscription a right to provide input on updates to said data; collecting from each of said plurality of subscribers a respective request to update said data; and updating, based on said respective requests and funded at least in part by the fees collected from said plurality of subscribers, the data in said geophysical database.
- 77. The system of claim 76 wherein said respective requests comprise votes.
- 78. The system of claim 77 wherein the quantity of votes cast by each subscriber is determined by a subscription parameter selected from the group comprising: a cost of a subscription to a subscriber, the duration of a subscription and the number of user seats purchased by a subscriber.
- 79. The system of claim 76 wherein said respective requests comprise requests from a subscriber committee.
- 80. The system of claim 76 where said step of updating includes collecting competitive bids from data providers.
- 81. The system of claim 76 wherein said step of updating includes selecting a geographical area to update based on subscriber usage of said data.

The system of claim 76 wherein said step of updating includes selecting a geographical area to update based on factors from the group comprising: aggregate subscriber revenue, availability of acquisition data resources and independent market assessments relating to the value of geophysical data.
- 83. A system for operating a geophysical database containing data relating to underground structures, comprising:
means for storing data in said geophysical database, said data from a plurality of shoots; means for identifying a plurality of users each desiring access to said geophysical database; means for collecting a respective fee from each of said plurality of users to establish for each of said plurality of users a respective subscription to said geophysical database; means for providing with each respective subscription access to respective subscriber data for use in assessing the hydrocarbon potential of underground structures; providing with each respective subscription a right to provide input on updates to said data; means for collecting from each of said plurality of subscribers a respective request to update said data; and means for updating, based on said respective requests and funded at least in part by the fees collected from said plurality of subscribers, the data in said geophysical database.
- 84. A computer program product, for use with a computer system, for operating a geophysical database, the computer program product comprising:
a computer-readable medium containing thereon instructions operative to control the operation of the computer system to perform the steps of:
storing data in said geophysical database, said data from a plurality of shoots; identifying a plurality of users each desiring access to said geophysical database; collecting a respective fee from each of said plurality of users to establish for each of said plurality of users a respective subscription to said geophysical database; providing with each respective subscription access to respective subscriber data for use in assessing the hydrocarbon potential of underground structures; providing with each respective subscription a right to provide input on updates to said data; collecting from each of said plurality of subscribers a respective request to update said data; and updating, based on said respective requests and funded at least in part by the fees collected from said plurality of subscribers, the data in said geophysical database.
