Claims
- 1. A method for removing palmheart from a portion of a stalk of palm that includes co-joined tapered and larger diameter meristem sections, comprising the steps of
- positionally retaining said portion in a receiving socket,
- positioning said portion with one of its ends in alignment with and abutting a coring backer mechanism, and the other of its ends in alignment with and accessible to the cutting edge of a tubular knife that is moveable toward said coring backer mechanism, and, while said portion is so positioned, moving the cutting edge of said coring knife toward said coring backer mechanism, thereby coring the palmheart core from said potion, withdrawing said coring knife from said portion carrying with it the palmheart cored from said portion and moving said backing mechanism and the top of said portion out of contact with each other, removing said palmheart from said coring knife, and releasing said portion so cored from said receiving socket.
- 2. The method described in claim 1 further including at least one of the steps selected from the group consisting of: vertically orienting said portion in carrying out said step of positionally retaining said portion in said receiving socket; vertically orienting said portion with its tapered portion facing downward in carrying out said step of positionally retaining said portion in said receiving socket; moving a worktable to which said receiving socket is affixed as part of said step of positioning said portion; rotating a circular worktable to which said receiving socket is affixed as part of said step of positioning said portion; moving said coring backer mechanism as part of said step of positioning said portion with one of its ends in alignment with and abutting a coring backer mechanism; moving said coring backer mechanism vertically downward as part of said step of positioning said portion with one of its ends in alignment with and abutting a coring backer mechanism; moving said cutting edge of said coring knife vertically upward as part of said step of moving the cutting edge of said coring knife toward said coring backer mechanism; moving said cutting edge of said coring knife toward said coring backer mechanism until said cutting edge is positioned within a correspondingly shaped seat in the surface of said backing mechanism which abuts said end of said portion as part of said step of moving said cutting edge toward said coring backer mechanism; pushing said cored segment of palmheart residing within said coring knife therefrom by a subsequently cored segment of palmheart as part of said step of removing said palmheart from said coring knife; and pivoting open the segments of a receiving socket which includes pivotally joined segments as part of said step of releasing said portion so cored from said receiving socket.
