Claims
- 1. A method of selective formation of C-11 and C-13 olefin bonds, comprising:
- combining tetrahydrofuran, dimethyl piperidine urea, and a phosphonate to form a solution;
- adding to the solution a lithium-coupled base;
- adding to the solution an aldehyde of the formula R.sup.3 CHO; and
- extracting and concentrating the ester reaction product, said ester having the formula ##STR6## and wherein R.sup.2 represents hydrogen, a lower alkyl having 1-8 carbons, or halogen,
- R.sup.3 represents a lower alkyl having 1-8 carbons, polyene compounds of the formula R.sup.1 --CH.dbd.CH--C(R.sup.1).dbd.CH-(E or Z orientation), cycloalkyl, or aryl, and R.sup.1 represents a lower or branched alkyl having 1-12 carbons or phenyl, and
- R.sup.4 represents hydrogen, a lower alkyl having 1-8 carbons, or halogen.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein R.sup.1 is methyl, R.sup.2 is hydrogen, R.sup.3 is 1-(2-methyl-1,3-butadien-4-yl)-2,6,6-trimethylcyclohexene, and R.sup.4 is methyl.

This application is a divisional of continuation-in-part application Ser. No. 08/230,939 filed on Apr. 21, 1994, now U.S. Pat. No. 5,567,855, and is a continuation-in-part of the application Ser. No. 08/052,040 filed on Apr. 21, 1993, now abandoned, whose entire disclosure is incorporated herein by reference.
