Claims
- 1. A method for the preparation of a particulate, crystalline, sodium tripolyphosphate composition comprising contacting crystalline sodium tripolyphosphate containing less than about 0.1% water with an aqueous solution of surfactant to produce a particulate, crystalline, sodium tripolyphosphate composition comprising between about 0.1% by weight and about 23% by weight water in the form of water of hydration and between about 0.2 ppm and about 125 ppm of the surfactant whereby said sodium tripolyphosphate composition remains substantially free flowing and resists caking during storage and shipment at prolonged exposure to ordinary ambient temperature and humidity conditions.
- 2. A method as set forth in claim 1 wherein said solution comprises between about 200 and about 500 ppm of the surfactant.
- 3. A method for the preparation of a particulate, crystalline, sodium tripolyphosphate composition comprising the steps of:
- calcining ortho phosphate to produce an unmilled calcined product; and
- contacting the unmilled calcined product with an aqueous solution of surfactant to produce particulate, crystalline, sodium tripolyphosphate composition comprising between about 0.1% by weight and about 23% by weight water in the form of water of hydration and between about 0.2 ppm and about 125 ppm of the surfactant whereby said sodium tripolyphosphate composition remains substantially free flowing and resists caking during storage and shipment at prolonged exposure to ordinary ambient temperature and humidity conditions.
- 4. A method as set forth in claim 3 wherein said calcining is effected at a temperature of between about 250.degree. C. and about 375.degree. C.
- 5. A method as set forth in claim 3 wherein said solution comprises between about 200 and about 500 ppm of the surfactant.
- 6. A method for the preparation of a particulate, crystalline, sodium tripolyphosphate composition comprising the steps of:
- calcining ortho phosphate to produce an unmilled calcined sodium tripolyphosphate product;
- milling the unmilled calcined product to form a milled calcined product; and
- contacting the milled calcined product with an aqueous solution of surfactant to produce a particulate, crystalline, sodium tripolyphosphate composition comprising between about 0.1% by weight and about 23% by weight water in the form of water of hydration and between about 0.2 ppm and about 125 ppm of the surfactant whereby said sodium tripolyphosphate composition remains substantially free flowing and resists caking during storage and shipment at prolonged exposure to ordinary ambient temperature and humidity conditions.
