Claims
- 1. A method for extracting useful work from a vortex-ring comprising the steps of:
generating said vortex-ring; launching said vortex-ring at a platen such that said platen penetrates the centroid of said vortex-ring along its axis of revolution; extracting useful work from said vortex-ring along said platen; and collecting said vortex ring with a collector.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said step of extracting useful work from said vortex-ring along said platen comprises the steps of:
utilizing a flexible platen filled with a fluid; compressing and expanding said flexible platen utilizing a high circuferential pressure formed at the bow of said vortex-ring and a low pressure at the wake of said vortex-ring; using the compression and expansion of said flexible platen to pump said fluid within said platen.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said step of extracting useful work from said vortex-ring along said platen comprises the steps of:
configuring said platen to form surface deposits on said platen; mechanically abrading said platen surface with said vortex-ring by fracturing the adhesion bonds of said surface deposits on said platen to thereby lift said deposits off said platen surface; entraining said surface deposits in the torus core of said vortex-ring; and transporting said deposits to said collector for recovery or disposal.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein said step of extracting useful work from said vortex-ring along said platen comprises the steps of:
transferring heat to said platen from an outside source; transferring heat from said platen to said vortex-ring by means of forced convection; and removing said heat transferred from said platen to said vortex-ring via said collector.
