- 11. A method of attachably engaging a tip of a surgical device to an end of a handle, comprisinginserting an end of the handle into an opening of a package having the tip releasably retained therein with a protrusion of the tip confined in a positioning cavity of the package; pushing the end of the handle into the package to cause the protrusion to enter a slot in the handle, said step of pushing including the steps of expanding the slot from its original size with the protrusion and allowing the slot to return to its original size to firmly hold the protrusion therein whereby the tip is attachably engaged to the end of the handle; and withdrawing the end of the handle from the opening with the attachably engaged tip.
- 12. The method recited in claim 11 wherein said step of allowing includes capturing an enlargement of the protrusion in an opening of the slot.
- 13. The method recited in claim 11 wherein said step of pushing includes establishing an electrical connection between the handle and the tip.
- 14. The method recited in claim 11 wherein said step of inserting includes aligning the slot with the protrusion.
- 15. The method recited in claim 14 wherein said step of inserting includes aligning the slot with directional indicia on the package and said step of pushing includes moving the handle in the direction of the indicia.
- 16. A method of releasing a tip of a surgical device that is removably attached to an end of a handle, comprisinginserting the removably attached tip into an opening in a package; pushing the end of the handle into the package; moving a pair of locking members in the package away from one another in response to said pushing step such that the removably attached tip is positioned between said locking members; withdrawing the end of the handle from the package while the tip remains in the package and is detached from the handle; and moving the pair of locking members toward one another in response to said withdrawing step such that the detached tip is retained between the locking members in the package.
- 17. The method recited in claim 16 wherein said step of inserting includes aligning a protrusion on the tip with a positioning cavity of the package.
- 18. The method recited in claim 17 wherein said step of aligning includes aligning the protrusion with directional indicia on the package and said step of pushing includes pushing the end of the handle in the direction of the indicia.
- 19. A method of attachably engaging a tip of a surgical device to an end of a handle and thereafter releasing the tip from the end of the handle, comprisinginserting the end of the handle into an opening of a package having the tip releasably retained in a tip cavity of the package by a locking mechanism in a first position; pushing the end of the handle into the package to move the locking mechanism from the first position to a second position to release the tip; attachably engaging the released tip to the end of the handle; withdrawing the end of the handle from the opening with the attachably engaged tip; returning the locking mechanism to the first position in response to said withdrawing step; thereafter inserting the end of the handle with the attachably engaged tip into the opening of the package; thereafter pushing the end of the handle into the package to move the locking mechanism from the first position to the second position to position the attachably engaged tip in the tip cavity; there after withdrawing the end of the handle from the opening while the tip remains in the package and is detached from the handle; and thereafter returning the locking mechanism to the first position in response to said thereafter withdrawing step to retain the detached tip in the tip cavity.
- 20. The method recited in claim 19 wherein said step of inserting includes aligning a slot in the handle with a protrusion on the tip.
- 21. The method recited in claim 19 wherein said step of inserting includes aligning a slot in the handle with indicia on the package.
- 22. The method recited in claim 21 wherein said step of pushing includes pushing the end of the handle in a direction indicated by the indicia.
