Claims
- 1. A method of reducing the water loss from an aqueous subterranean well formation treating fluid into a water permeable subterranean formation penetrated by a well bore comprising the steps of:
- injecting a gelling agent into said formation having the property of forming a highly viscous gel in the presence of water;
- and then introducing said aqueous treating fluid into said well bore whereby water therefrom and water contained in said water permeable subterranean formation forms a highly viscous gel with said gelling agent in said formation which reduces the flow of water thereinto;
- wherein said gelling agent is selected from the group consisting of ethoxylated surface active agents and mixtures of such agents.
- 2. A method of reducing the water loss from an aqueous subterranean well formation treating fluid into a water permeable subterranean formation penetrated by a wellbore comprising the steps of:
- injecting a gelling agent into said formation having the property of forming a highly viscous gel in the presence of water;
- and then introducing said aqueous treating fluid into said wellbore whereby water therefrom and water contained in said water permeable subterranean formation forms a highly viscous gel with said gelling agent in said formation which reduces the flow of water thereinto;
- wherein said gelling agent is a surface active agent selected from the group consisting of ethoxylated alcohols, ethoxylated aliphatics, amido betaines, polyoxyethylene oleyl ether, polyoxyethylene 20 sorbitan mono-oleate, and polyoxyethylene fatty glyceride, and mixtures of such agents.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said gelling agent is polyoxyethylene oleyl ether.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein said gelling agent is a 50% by volume mixture of polyoxyethylene oleyl ether and polyoxyethylene fatty glyceride.
