Claims
- 1. A method of making triorganosiloxy endcapped alkylmethyl siloxanes comprising contacting and reacting a linear triorganosiloxy endcapped methylhydrogen polysiloxane containing less than 0.2% branch sites, with an alpha-olefin, in the presence of a platinum catalyst, until a triorganosiloxy endcapped alkylmethyl siloxane containing less than 200 parts per million hydrogen as residual .tbd.SiH is formed.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 in which the alpha-olefin is an alkene selected from the group consisting of ethene, propene, 1-butene, isobutylene (2-methylpropene), 1-pentene (C5), 2-methyl-1-butene, 3-methyl-1-butene, 1-hexene, 2-methyl-1-pentene, 3-methyl-1-pentene, 4-methyl-1-pentene, 1-heptene, 2-methyl-1-hexene, 1-octene, 2-methyl-1-heptene, 1-nonene, 1-decene (C10), 1-undecene, 1-dodecene, 1-tridecene, 1-tetradecene, 1-pentadecene (C15), 1-hexadecene, 1-octadecene, 1-nonadecene, 1-eicosene (C20), and alpha-olefin fractions containing C22-C30+ alpha-olefins.
- 3. A method according to claim 2 in which the triorganosiloxy endcapped alkylmethyl siloxane has a degree of polymerization of about 750-2200.
- 4. A method according to claim 3 in which the reaction is continued until the triorganosiloxy endcapped alkylmethyl siloxane contains about 25-200 parts per million hydrogen as residual .tbd.SiH.
- 5. A triorganosiloxy endcapped alkylmethyl siloxane prepared according to the method in claim 1.
- 6. A triorganosiloxy endcapped alkylmethyl siloxane prepared according to the method in claim 1 and containing less than 0.2% branch sites.
- 7. A method of making a triorganosiloxy endcapped alkylmethyl siloxane from a linear triorganosiloxy endcapped methylhydrogen polysiloxane comprising (i) forming a reaction mixture containing a silanol-free hexaorganodisiloxane, one or more silanol-free methylhydrogen cyclic siloxanes, and less than about 100 parts per million water, (ii) contacting the reaction mixture with anhydrous trifluoromethane sulfonic acid catalyst, and (iii) agitating the mixture and the catalyst at below 100.degree. C. to form a linear triorganosiloxy endcapped methylhydrogen polysiloxane, the linear triorganosiloxy endcapped methylhydrogen polysiloxane containing less than 0.2% branch sites, (iv) contacting and reacting the linear triorganosiloxy endcapped methylhydrogen polysiloxane containing less than 0.2% branch sites, with an alpha-olefin, in the presence of a platinum catalyst, until a triorganosiloxy endcapped alkylmethyl siloxane containing less than 200 parts per million hydrogen as residual .tbd.SiH is formed.
- 8. A method according to claim 7 in which the alpha-olefin is an alkene selected from the group consisting of ethene, propene, 1-butene, isobutylene (2-methylpropene), 1-pentene (C5), 2-methyl-1-butene, 3-methyl-1-butene, 1-hexene, 2-methyl-1-pentene, 3-methyl-1-pentene, 4-methyl-1-pentene, 1-heptene, 2-methyl-1-hexene, 1-octene, 2-methyl-1-heptene, 1-nonene, 1-decene (C10), 1-undecene, 1-dodecene, 1-tridecene, 1-tetradecene, 1-pentadecene (C15), 1-hexadecene, 1-octadecene, 1-nonadecene, 1-eicosene (C20), and alpha-olefin fractions containing C22-C30+ alpha-olefins.
- 9. A method according to claim 8 in which the triorganosiloxy endcapped alkylmethyl siloxane has a degree of polymerization of about 750-2200.
- 10. A method according to claim 9 in which the reaction is continued until the triorganosiloxy endcapped alkylmethyl siloxane contains about 25-200 parts per million hydrogen as residual .tbd.SiH.
- 11. A triorganosiloxy endcapped alkylmethyl siloxane prepared according to the method in claim 7.
- 12. A triorganosiloxy endcapped alkylmethyl siloxane prepared according to the method in claim 7 containing less than 0.2% branch sites.
