Claims
- 1. A method of making pop-up elements, which method comprises
- providing a continuous web of sheet material having first and second surfaces on opposite sides of said web, said web being designed to provide a series of blanks for fabrication into structurally identical pop-up elements,
- superimposing onto said continuous web at least one continuous strip of sheet material carrying a pressure-sensitive adhesive pattern so as to apply said pressure-sensitive adhesive pattern to said first surface of said web along a straight line,
- applying a pattern of bonding adhesive to said second surface of said web,
- manipulating said web and said superimposed strip so as to superimpose one portion of said web upon a remaining portion of said web with said second surfaces in contact with each other so that said bonding adhesive pattern effects a secure joinder therebetween, and
- cutting said sheet material web and strip so as to create a plurality of pop-up elements, which elements each include a flag section and a supporting base section having at least two panels hinged to said flag section which panels are also hinged to each other and have oppositely facing surfaces that carry pressure-sensitive adhesive covered by said strip,
- said pressure-sensitive adhesive allowing said pop-up elements to be adhered to a supporting surface or between a pair of facing supporting panels following removal of said strip and thereby assume an attention-attracting three-dimensional configuration.
- 2. A method of making pop-up elements according to claim 1 wherein a pattern of bonding adhesive is applied to said second surface of said web, wherein said web and said superimposed strip are manipulated so as to superimpose one portion of said web upon said remaining portion with said second surfaces in contact with each other so that said bonding adhesive pattern effects a secure joinder therebetween, and wherein said base section panels are hinged to each other and have oppositely facing surfaces that carry said pressure-sensitive adhesive covered by said strip.
- 3. A method of making pop-up elements according to claim 2 wherein said pressure-sensitive adhesive pattern is applied so that there is pressure-sensitive adhesive located on opposite sides of a longitudinal straight line and wherein said manipulating folds said web along said longitudinal line.
- 4. A method of making pop-up elements according to claim 3 wherein the surface of said continuous strip of sheet material which is superimposed onto said continuous web carries a release coating and said strip has a width less than the width of said continuous web.
- 5. A method of making pop-up elements according to claim 4 wherein said bonding adhesive is permanent adhesive and said pattern of bonding adhesive is applied along one lateral edge region of said second surface of said continuous web.
- 6. A method of making pop-up elements according to claim 3 wherein the surface of said continuous strip of sheet material which is superimposed onto said continuous web carries a release coating and said strip has a width about equal to the width of said continuous web.
- 7. A method of making pop-up elements according to claim 6 wherein a continuous carrier web is provided, wherein a carrier adhesive pattern is applied using an adhesive having a lower bond strength than said pressure-sensitive adhesive, and wherein each of said individual pop-up elements upon severing from said web is interconnected with said carrier web via said carrier adhesive pattern.
- 8. A method of making pop-up elements according to claim 1 wherein said continuous strip of sheet material is a carrier web of a width at least equal to that of said continuous web, wherein at least one line of weakness extending longitudinally is impressed into said continuous web in the region of each blank and wherein said cutting step includes kiss-cutting which penetrates completely through said continuous web but not through said carrier web.
- 9. A method of making pop-up elements, which method comprises the steps of
- providing a continuous web of sheet material having first and second surfaces on opposite sides of said web, said web being designed to provide a series of blanks for fabrication into structurally identical pop-up elements,
- applying a pressure-sensitive adhesive pattern to said first surface of said web along a straight line,
- superimposing onto said continuous web at least one continuous strip of sheet material so as to cover said pressure-sensitive adhesive pattern,
- manipulating said web and said superimposed strip so as to superimpose one portion of said web upon a remaining portion of said web with said second surfaces in contact with each other, and
- cutting said sheet material web and strip so as to create a plurality of pop-up elements, which elements each include a flag section and a lower supporting base section having at least two lowermost panels which carry said pressure-sensitive adhesive on oppositely facing surfaces and are covered by said strip,
- said pressure-sensitive adhesive allowing said oppositely facing surfaces of said lowermost panels of said pop-up elements to be adhered either to a supporting surface or between a pair of facing supporting panels following removal of said strip and thereby assume an attention-attracting three-dimensional configuration.
- 10. A method of making pop-up elements according to claim 9 wherein a pattern of bonding adhesive is applied to said second surface of said web, wherein said bonding adhesive pattern effects a secure joinder between said second surfaces of said one portion and said remaining portion following said manipulating step.
- 11. A method of making pop-up elements according to claim 10 wherein said pressure-sensitive adhesive pattern is applied so that there is pressure-sensitive adhesive located on opposite sides of a longitudinal straight line and wherein said manipulating step folds said web along said longitudinal line.
- 12. A method of making pop-up elements according to claim 11 wherein the surface of said continuous strip of sheet material which is superimposed onto said continuous web carries a release coating and said strip has a width less than the width of said continuous web.
- 13. A method of making pop-up elements according to claim 11 wherein said bonding adhesive is permanent adhesive and said pattern of bonding adhesive is applied along one lateral edge region of said second surface of said continuous web.
- 14. A method of making pop-up elements according to claim 13 wherein a continuous carrier web is provided, wherein a carrier adhesive pattern is applied using an adhesive having a lower bond strength than said pressure-sensitive adhesive, and wherein each of said individual pop-up elements upon severing from said web is interconnected with said carrier web via said carrier adhesive pattern.
- 15. A method of making pop-up elements according to claim 11 wherein the surface of said continuous strip of sheet material which is superimposed onto said continuous web carries a release coating and said strip has a width about equal to the width of said continuous web.
- 16. A method of making pop-up elements, which method comprises the steps of
- providing a continuous web of sheet material having first and second surfaces on opposite sides of said web, said web being designed to provide a series of blanks for fabrication into structurally identical pop-up elements,
- applying a pressure-sensitive adhesive pattern to said first surface of said web along a straight line,
- superimposing onto said continuous web at least one continuous strip of sheet material so as to cover said pressure-sensitive adhesive pattern,
- applying a pattern of bonding adhesive to said second surface of said web,
- manipulating said web and said superimposed strip so as to superimpose one portion of said web upon a remaining portion of said web with said second web surfaces in contact with each other so that said bonding adhesive pattern effects a secure joinder therebetween, and
- cutting said sheet material web and strip so as to create a plurality of pop-up elements, which elements each include a flag section and a lower supporting base section having at least two interconnected panels which carry said pressure-sensitive adhesive and are covered by said strip,
- said pressure-sensitive adhesive being disposed on oppositely facing surfaces and allowing said pop-up elements to be adhered to a supporting surface or between a pair of facing supporting panels following removal of said strip and thereby assume an attention-attracting three-dimensional configuration.
- 17. A method of making pop-up elements according to claim 16 wherein said pressure-sensitive adhesive pattern is applied so that there is pressure-sensitive adhesive located on opposite sides of a longitudinal straight line and wherein said manipulating step folds said web along said longitudinal line so that said base section panels carrying said pressure-sensitive adhesive are hinged to each other.
- 18. A method of making pop-up elements, which method comprises the steps of
- providing a continuous web of sheet material having first and second surfaces on opposite sides of said web, said web being designed to provide a series of blanks for fabrication into structurally identical pop-up elements,
- providing at least one continuous strip of sheet material having a release coating,
- applying a pressure-sensitive adhesive pattern along a straight line to said first surface of said web or to said at least one continuous strip,
- superimposing onto said continuous web said at least one continuous strip of sheet material so that said pressure-sensitive adhesive pattern is sandwiched between said continuous web and said at least one continuous strip with said adhesive residing on portions of said continuous web which constitute two lowermost panels hinged to the remainder of the pop-up element, and
- manipulating and cutting both said sheet material web and said strip in a direction at least transverse to the length of said continuous web and in a manner so as to create a plurality of the pop-up elements, each of which elements includes a flag section and a lower supporting base section having said two lowermost panels which carry said pressure-sensitive adhesive and are covered by said strip,
- said release-coated strip being removable from said two lowermost panels to expose said pressure-sensitive adhesive which then allows said lowermost panels of each said pop-up element to be adhered either to a supporting surface or between a pair of facing supporting panels and thereby assume an attention-attracting three-dimensional configuration.
