Claims
- 1. A method of measuring the limpness of a note comprising the steps of:
- (a) capturing a first portion of the note;
- (b) deflecting a second portion of the note with a pressure applied to said second portion;
- (c) measuring the deflection; and,
- (d) determining the limpness of the note from the measured deflection.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said step (b) comprises deflecting the second portion with an air burst.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein step (c) comprises measuring the deflection with an optical sensor.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein step (c) comprises measuring the deflection of the note between a capacitor's plates by measuring a variation in the capacitor's value.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein step (d) comprises determining the limpness of the note from the measured deflection at one or more locations on the note.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein step (d) comprises determining the limpness of the note from the measured deflection along with a second method for determining currency limpness to determine a limpness value.
- 7. An apparatus for determining the limpness of a note, said apparatus comprising:
- (a) a means for capturing a first portion of the note;
- (b) a means for deflecting a second portion of the note by applying a pressure to said second portion of the note;
- (c) a device for measuring the deflection; and
- (d) means connected to said deflection measuring device for determining the limpness of said note from said measured deflection.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein the deflection measuring device comprises an optical sensor.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein the deflection measuring device comprises opposed capacitor's plates.
