Claims
- 1. A method of reinforcing an annulus of an intervertebral disc, comprising the steps of:
providing a biocompatible support member; implanting the support member within the annulus at least partially between two or more layers of the annulus.
- 2. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of anchoring the support member to the annulus.
- 3. The method of claim 1 further comprising the steps of attaching the support member to a connector and anchoring the connector to a wall of the annulus.
- 4. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of attaching the support member to a connector and anchoring the connector to a vertebral endplate.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein the support member comprises a connector, further comprising the step of attaching the connector to a wall of the annulus.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein the support member comprises a connector, further comprising the step of attaching the connector to a vertebral endplate.
- 7. A method of reinforcing an annulus of an intervertebral disc comprising the steps of:
providing a biocompatible support member; implanting the support member adjacent an innermost surface of the annulus.
- 8. The method of claim 7 further comprising the step of anchoring the support member to the annulus.
- 9. The method of claim 8 further comprising the steps of attaching the support member to a connector and anchoring the connector to a wall of the annulus.
- 10. The method of claim 7 further comprising the steps of attaching the support member to a connector and anchoring the connector to a vertebral endplate.
- 11. The method of claim 7 wherein the support member comprises a connector, further comprising the step of attaching the connector to a wall of the annulus.
- 12. The method of claim 7 wherein the support member comprises a connector, further comprising the step of attaching the connector to a vertebral endplate.
- 13. A method of altering the shape of an intervertebral disc annulus comprising the steps of:
displacing a herniated annulus segment medially to approximately its pre-herniated location; providing a biocompatible support member; and implanting the support member within the annulus at least partially between two or more layers of the annulus of the displaced annulus segment; wherein the support member extends beyond the herniated segment into two or more layers of adjacent unherniated annulus in at least one direction.
- 14. The method of claim 13 further comprising the step of anchoring the support member to the annulus.
- 15. The method of claim 14 further comprising the steps of attaching the support member to a connector and anchoring the connector to a wall of the annulus.
- 16. The method of claim 13 further comprising the steps of attaching the support member to a connector and anchoring the connector to a vertebral endplate.
- 17. The method of claim 13 wherein the support member comprises a connector, further comprising the step of attaching the connector to a wall of the annulus.
- 18. The method of claim 13 wherein the support member comprises a connector, further comprising the step of attaching the connector to a vertebral endplate.
