Claims
- 1. A method of securing an end portion of an aircraft armament support plank to a floor section of an aircraft cabin area, said floor section having a structural beam member underlying a removable floor panel, said method comprising the steps of:removing said floor panel to expose a portion of the underlying structural beam member through a floor opening previously covered by said floor panel; reinforcing said portion of said structural beam member; removing a portion of the removed floor panel; reattaching the remaining portion of the removed floor panel to said floor section over a portion of said floor opening; securing a plank mounting panel having a top side to said floor section over the portion of said floor opening left uncovered by the reattached remaining portion of the removed floor panel in a manner such that a portion of said plank mounting panel rests on the reinforced structural beam member portion, said plank mounting panel having at least one mounting member carried on the top side thereof; and attaching said end portion Of said aircraft armament support plank to said at least one mounting member with said support plank end portion overlying said plank mounting panel, whereby vertical loads imposed on said support plank end portion are transferred to said reinforced beam portion through said plank mounting panel.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said reinforcing step includes the step of attaching a skin doubler plate member to said structural beam member.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein:said plank mounting panel has first and second strut recesses formed in the top side thereof, said at least one mounting member includes a pair of strut members carried by said plank mounting panel for movement relative thereto between first positions in which said strut members project upwardly from said plank mounting panel, and second positions in which said strut members are moved downwardly into said first and second strut recesses, and said method further comprises the step, performed prior to said attaching step, of moving said pair of strut members from said second positions thereof to said first positions thereof.
- 4. The method of claim 3 further comprising the step of mounting said pair of strut members on said plank mounting panel for pivotal movement relative thereto between said first and second positions.
- 5. The method of claim 4 wherein said mounting step includes the steps of forming pin recesses in the top side of said plank mounting panel adjacent said strut recesses, positioning pin members in said pin recesses, and using said pin members to mount said strut members for pivotal movement about horizontal axes between said first and second positions thereof.
- 6. A method of securing an end portion of an aircraft armament support plank to a floor section of an aircraft cabin area, said floor section having a structural beam member underlying a portion of said floor section, said method comprising the steps of:removing said portion of said floor section to expose a portion of the underlying structural beam member through a floor opening previously covered by said portion of said floor section; reinforcing said portion of said structural beam member; securing a mounting structure to said floor section over at least a portion of said floor opening in a manner such that a portion of said mounting structure rests on the reinforced structural beam member portion, said mounting structure having at least one mounting member movably carried thereon; and attaching said end portion of said aircraft armament support plank to said at least one mounting member with said support plank end portion overlying said mounting structure, whereby vertical loads imposed on said support plank end portion are transferred to said reinforced beam portion through said mounting structure.
- 7. The method of claim 6 wherein:said at least one mounting member is carried by said mounting structure for pivotal movement relative thereto between a first position in which said at least one mounting member is recessed in said mounting structure, and a second position in which said at least one mounting member projects outwardly from said mounting structure, and said attaching step is performed with said mounting member in said second position.
- 8. The method of claim 7 wherein:said securing step is performed by securing a plank mounting panel over at least a portion of said floor opening, said plank mounting panel having an opening area therein, and said at least one mounting member is pivotally secured to said plank mounting panel within said opening area therein.
