Claims
- 1. A method of reducing body fat in animals comprising:
providing an animal and an enriched t10,c12 conjugated linoleic acid preparation; administering said conjugated linoleic acid isomer preparation to said animal so that body fat is reduced.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said conjugated linoleic acid preparation is characterized in containing 10,12-linoleic acid and 9,11-linoleic acid in a ratio greater than 1.2:1.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein said conjugated linoleic acid composition is at least approximately 80% t10,c12 octadecadienoic acid.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein said conjugated linoleic acid composition is at least approximately 92% t10,c12 octadecadienoic acid.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein said conjugated linoleic acid preparation is provided as a preparation selected from the group consisting of free fatty acids, alkylesters and triglycerides.
- 6. A method of treating obesity in humans comprising:
providing a patient suffering from obesity and an enriched t10,c12 conjugated linoleic acid preparation; administering said conjugated linoleic acid isomer preparation to said patient so that body fat is reduced.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein said conjugated linoleic acid preparation is characterized in containing 10,12-linoleic acid and 9,11-linoleic acid in a ratio greater than 1.2:1.
- 8. The method of claim 6, wherein said conjugated linoleic acid composition is at least approximately 80% t10,c12 octadecadienoic acid.
- 9. The method of claim 6, wherein said conjugated linoleic acid composition is at least approximately 92% t10,c12 octadecadienoic acid.
- 10. The method of claim 6, wherein said conjugated linoleic acid is provided as a preparation selected from the group consisting of free fatty acids, alkylesters and triglycerides.
- 11. A method of increasing feed efficiency and growth in animals comprising:
providing an animal and a conjugated linoleic acid preparation enriched for c9, t11 conjugated linoleic acid; administering said conjugated linoleic acid composition to said animal so that feed efficiency is increased.
- 12. The method of claim 11, wherein said conjugated linoleic acid composition is characterized in containing c9,t11 and t10,c12 octadecadienoic acids in a ratio of about 1.5:1 to 2.5:1.
- 13. The method of claim 11, wherein said conjugated linoleic composition comprises about 30-60% c9,t11 octadecadienoic acid and about 15-30% t10,c12 octadecadienoic acid.
- 14. The method of claim 11, wherein said conjugated linoleic acid is provided as a preparation selected from the group consisting of free fatty acids, alkylesters and triglycerides.
- 15. A method of producing t10,c12 conjugated linoleic acid compositions comprising:
a) providing a commodity seed oil; and b) forming a mixture of fatty acid alkylesters from said seed oil; c) conjugating said fatty acid alkylesters to form conjugated fatty acid alkylesters, said conjugated fatty acid alkylesters characterized in comprising t10,c12 alkylester; d) diluting said conjugated fatty acid alkyl esters in a solvent to form a solution; and e) precipitating t10,c12 alkylester from said solution.
- 16. The method of claim 15, further comprising the step of saponifying said t10,c12 alkylester to produce t10,c12 octadecadienoic acid.
