Claims
- 1. A micro-metering apparatus for continuous and accurate delivery of small amounts of bulk material comprising:
- a weighing container;
- a discharge assembly connected to the weighing container and having
- (i) an upper horizontal base having an opening therein, the opening being substantially unimpeded for a flow of bulk material from the weighing container;
- (ii) a lower horizontal base vertically spaced from the upper base to define a premetering space therebetween, the premetering space being in flow communication with the weighing container through the opening in the upper horizontal base;
- (iii) an aperture located between the upper and lower horizontal bases and being in flow communication with the premetering space;
- (iv) a rotating cleaning device disposed in said premetering space for transferring bulk material through the aperture; and
- (v) a metering screw device disposed to receive bulk material from said aperture and to deliver a metered amount of the bulk material to an output of the discharge assembly;
- weighing elements connected to the weighing container to provide continuous signals representative of the weight of the micro-metering apparatus and the bulk material; and
- control means responsive to the continuous signals and operatively connected to the rotating cleaning device and the metering screw device for controlling the delivery of bulk material.
- 2. The micro-metering apparatus of claim 1 wherein the opening in the upper horizontal base is sector shaped.
- 3. The micro-metering apparatus of claim 1 wherein the opening in the upper horizontal base is disposed opposite the lateral aperture thereby preventing the bulk material from surging into the metering screw device.
- 4. The micro-metering apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a rotating cleaning device above the upper horizontal base for transferring bulk material through the opening in the upper horizontal base, and wherein the two rotating cleaning devices and the metering screw are driven by a single drive means.
- 5. The micro-metering apparatus of claim 4 wherein the single drive means is a remote controlled variable-speed gear unit.
- 6. The micro-metering apparatus of claim 4 wherein the two rotating cleaning devices and the metering screw are driven at a predetermined speed ratio.
- 7. The micro-metering apparatus of claim 1 wherein the weighing container is detachable from the discharge assembly.
- 8. The micro-metering apparatus of claim 1 wherein the discharge assembly is constructed as a modular unit.
- 9. The micro-metering apparatus of claim 4 wherein the rotating cleaning device above the-upper horizontal base has a two-blade construction.
- 10. The micro-metering apparatus of claim 1 wherein the rotating cleaning device in the premetering space has a four-blade construction and each of the four blades has a height to width ratio of substantially less than one.
- 11. The micro-metering apparatus of claim 1 wherein the weighing container includes an air lock for ventilating and aerating the weighing container during filling.
- 12. The micro-metering apparatus of claim 1 wherein the metering screw device has an associated infeed region adjacent to and in flow communication with the aperture and wherein the aperture cross sectional flow area is less than the cross sectional flow area of the infeed region of the metering screw device.
- 13. A micro-metering apparatus for continuous and accurate delivery of small amounts of bulk material comprising:
- a weighing container, the weighing container being closed and having
- (i) a closable feed inlet;
- (ii) an air lock;
- (iii) an upper horizontal base having an opening therein, the opening being substantially unimpeded for a flow of bulk material from the weighing container;
- (iv) a lower horizontal base vertically spaced from the upper base to define a premetering space therebetween, the premetering space being in flow communication with the weighing container through the opening in the upper horizontal base;
- (v) an aperture located between the upper and lower horizontal bases and being in flow communication with the premetering space; and
- (vi) a rotating cleaning device having an element disposed above the upper horizontal base for transferring the bulk material into the premetering space and an element in said premetering space for transferring bulk material through the aperture;
- a metering screw device fixedly attached to the weighing container and disposed to receive bulk material from said aperture and to deliver a metered amount of the bulk material to an output; and
- weighing elements connected to the weighing container for determining the weight of the apparatus and the bulk material, thereby allowing the apparatus to function as a differential weigher.
- 14. The micro-metering apparatus of claim 1 wherein the aperture is located in a vertical wall of the discharge assembly thereby causing the bulk material to leave the premetering space in a lateral direction.
