Claims
- 1. A method of cooking food in a microwave oven, the method comprising:a. providing a dish portion having an interior containing food, the dish portion including a bottom surface and at least one sidewall extending therefrom, the sidewall including a ridge defining a top boundary of the at least one sidewall and a lid seat including a skirt depending from the ridge and indentations which extend down the skirt; b. providing a lid resting on the ridge and covering the interior of the dish portion, the lid including a lid seal adapted to engage the lid seat, the lid seal and indentations on the lid seat forming vents for providing pressure relief when excess pressure builds in the interior of the dish portion; and c. heating the food contained in the interior of the dish portion such that steam and pressure build within the interior of the dish portion, causing the lid to raise above the ridge and expose the indentations in the lid seat to the interior of the dish portion and allow the steam and pressure to be vented from the dish portion through the indentations.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the lid seat further includes a flange extending outward from the skirt.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein the indentations also extend across the flange.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the indentations begin on the lid seat and form notches on the ridges.
- 5. A cooking device for use in cooking food in a microwave oven, the cooking device comprising:a. a dish portion having a bottom surface and at least one sidewall extending therefrom for containing food; b. a ridge defining a top boundary of the at least one sidewall; c. a lid seat including a skirt depending from the ridge and a flange extending outward from the skirt, the lid seat including indentations which extend down the skirt and across the flange; and d. a lid for covering the dish portion, the lid including a lid seal adapted to engage the lid seat when the lid is closed over the dish portion, the lid seal and indentations on the lid seat forming vents for providing pressure relief when excess pressure builds in the cooking device.
- 6. The cooking device of claim 5 wherein the indentations begin on the lid seat form notches on the ridge.
- 7. The cooking device of claim 5 wherein indentations extending down the skirt and across the flange are L-shaped.
- 8. The cooking device of claim 5 wherein the vents are approximately ⅛ of an inch in diameter.
- 9. The cooking device of claim 5 further comprising ribs positioned upon and rising above the bottom surface of the dish portion.
- 10. The cooking device of claim 5 further comprising a dividing wall extending through the dish portion to divide the dish portion into a first chamber and a second chamber.
- 11. The cooking device of claim 5 wherein the lid is made a flexible material, the lid being adapted to rise above the ridge when pressure builds in the cooking device and thereby provide a passage from an interior of the cooking device to an exterior of the cooking device through the vents.
- 12. A cooking device for use in cooking food in a microwave oven, the cooking device comprising:a. a dish portion having a bottom surface and at least one sidewall extending therefrom defining a dish interior for containing food; b. a ridge defining a top boundary of the at least one sidewall; c. a lid seat including a skirt depending from the ridge, the lid seat including vents which extend down the skirt; and d. a lid for resting on the ridge and covering the dish portion, the lid including a lid seal engaging the lid seat when the lid rests on the ridge, the lid adapted to rise above the ridge when pressure builds in the cooking device and thereby provide a passage through the vents from the dish interior to an exterior of the cooking device.
- 13. The cooking device of claim 12 wherein the lid seat further includes a flange extending outward from the skirt.
- 14. The cooking device of claim 13 wherein the vents also extend across the flange.
- 15. The cooking device of claim 12 wherein the vents begin on the lid seat and form notches on the ridge.
