Claims
- 1. A compound of formula (I).sub.w : ##STR18## in which: R.sub.w.sup.1 and R.sub.w.sup.2 are independently selected from the group consisting of: hydrogen atoms; halogen atoms; cyano groups; nitro groups; C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl groups; substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl groups having at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of substituents (a), defined below; C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy groups; C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkoxyalkoxy groups; groups of formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.n.sbsb.w NHR.sub.w.sup.9,
- in which: n.sub.w represents 0 or the integer 1 or 2, and R.sub.w.sup.9 represents a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group;
- groups of formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.n.sbsb.w NR.sub.w.sup.9 C(.dbd.O)R.sub.w.sup.6,
- in which:
- n.sub.w and R.sub.w.sup.9 are as defined above, and R.sub.w.sup.6 represents: a hydrogen atom: a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group; a substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group having at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of substituents (b), defined below: a C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 aliphatic hydrocarbon group having one or two ethylenically unsaturated carbon-carbon double bonds, said group being unsubstituted or having at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of substituents (b).sub.w, defined below; a C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkynyl group; a substituted C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkynyl group having at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of substituents (b).sub.w, defined below; a C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 cycloalkyl group; a substituted C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 cycloalkyl group having at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of substituents (c).sub.w, defined below; a carbocyclic aryl group having from 6 to 14 ring carbon atoms and being unsubstituted of having at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of substituents (c).sub.w, defined below; or a heterocyclic group having from 3 to 6 ring atoms of which at least one is a hereto-atom selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur hereto-atoms, said heterocyclic group being monocyclic or fused to one or two benzene rings and being unsubstituted or having at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of substituents (c).sub.w, defined below;

- R.sub.w.sup.5 represents a methyl group, an ethyl group, an isopropyl group or a sec-butyl group; and
- X.sub.w represents a hydroxy group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkanoyloxy group, a substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkanoyloxy group having at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of substituents (d), defined below, or a hydroxyimino group;
- said aralkyl groups have from 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl part and from 6 to 10 ring atoms in the aryl part, which is a carbocyclic aryl group which is unsubstituted or has at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of substituents (c), defined below;

- halogen atoms, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy groups, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylthio groups and C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkanoyloxy groups;

- C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 cycloalkyl groups: C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy groups; C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylthio groups; C.sub.2 -C.sub.5 cyanoalkylthio groups; C.sub.2 -C.sub.5 alkoxycarbonyl groups; halogen atoms; cyano groups; nitro groups; amino groups; carbocyclic aryl groups having from 6 to 10 carbon atoms and being unsubstituted or having at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of substituents (c).sub.w, defined below; aromatic heterocyclic groups having from 5 to 8 ring atoms of which from 1 to 4 are hereto-atoms selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur hereto-atoms, said heterocyclic group being monocyclic or fused either to a benzene ring or to a heterocyclic group which has 5 or 6 ring atoms of which from 1 to 3 are nitrogen hereto-atoms and being unsubstituted or having at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of substituents (c).sub.w, defined below; and aryloxy and arylthio groups in which the aryl part has from 6 to 10 carbon atoms and is unsubstituted or has at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of substituents (c).sub.w, defined below;

- 2. The compound of claim 1, wherein:
- R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom; and
- R.sub.w.sup.2 represents a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy group, a fluorine or chlorine atom, a nitro group or an amino group.
- 3. The compound of claim 1, wherein:
- R.sub.w.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom; and
- R.sub.w.sup.2 represents a group of formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.n.sbsb.w NR.sub.w.sup.9 COR.sub.w.sup.6 in which n.sub.w is 0, R.sub.w.sup.9 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and R.sup.6 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 cycloalkyl group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl group substituted with a halogen, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkylthio, cyanomethylthio or phenoxy substituent; an alkenyl group (such as a vinyl or allyl group), an unsubstituted phenyl group, a phenyl group substituted with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, halogen or nitro substituent, a pyridyl group, a pyrimidyl group, a pyrazyl group, a furyl group or a thienyl group.
- 4. The compound of claim 1, wherein:
- R.sub.w.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom; and
- R.sub.w.sup.2 represents a group of formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.n.sbsb.w NR.sub.w.sup.9 COCOR.sub.w.sup.6 in which n.sub.w is 0, R.sub.w.sup.9 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and R.sub.w.sup.6 represents a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 cycloalkyl group, an alkenyl group, an unsubstituted phenyl group, a phenyl group substituted with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, halogen or nitro substituent.
- 5. The compound of claim 1, wherein:
- R.sub.w.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom; and
- R.sub.w.sup.2 represents a group of formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.n.sbsb.w NR.sub.w.sup.9 C(.dbd.Y.sub.w)YR.sub.w.sup.6 in which n.sub.w is 0, R.sub.w.sup.9 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, both Y.sub.w are oxygen atoms and R.sub.w.sup.6 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group substituted with a halogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy substituent, an alkenyl group, a benzyl group, a methoxybenzyl group, a nitrobenzyl group, a furfuryl group, a thenyl group or a phenyl group.
- 6. The compound of claim 1, wherein:
- R.sub.w.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom; and
- R.sub.w.sup.2 represents a group of formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.n.sbsb.w NR.sub.w.sup.9 C(.dbd.Y.sub.w)NR.sub.w.sup.6' R.sub.w.sup.6' in which n.sub.w is 0, R.sub.w.sup.9 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, Y.sub.w represents an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom, and each R.sub.w.sup.6' is the same or different and each represents a
- C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl group, an unsubstituted phenyl group, a phenyl group substituted with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, halogen or nitro substituent, or R.sub.w.sup.6' R.sub.w.sup.6', together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, represent a piperidino, piperazino, morpholino, pyrrolidino or aziridino group.
- 7. The compound of claim 1, wherein:
- R.sub.w.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom; and
- R.sub.w.sup.2 represents a group of formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.n.sbsb.w NR.sub.w.sup.9 C(.dbd.Y.sub.w)NR.sub.w.sup.6" NR.sub.w.sup.6" R.sub.w.sup.6" in which n.sub.w is 0, R.sub.w.sup.9 represent a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, Y.sub.w represents an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom, and each R.sub.w.sup.6" is the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl group, an unsubstituted phenyl group; a phenyl group substituted with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, halogen or nitro substituent, or NR.sub.w.sup.6" R.sub.w.sup.6" represent a piperidino, piperazino, morpholino, pyrrolidino or aziridino group, or NR.sub.w.sup.6" NR.sub.w.sup.6" represent a pyrazolidinyl or tetrahydropyridazinyl group.
- 8. The compound of claim 1, wherein:
- R.sub.w.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom; and
- R.sub.w.sup.2 represents a group of formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.n.sbsb.w NR.sub.w.sup.9 C(.dbd.Y.sub.w)NR.sub.w.sup.6 NHZ.sub.w in which n.sub.w is 0, R.sub.w.sup.9 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, Y.sub.w represents an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom, R.sub.w.sup.6 represents a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group or a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl group; Z.sub.w represents a group of formula --COOR.sub.w.sup.7 wherein R.sub.w.sup.7 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl group or a benzyl group,

- 9. The compound of claim 1, wherein:
- R.sub.w.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom; and
- R.sub.w.sup.2 represents a group of formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.n.sbsb.w NR.sub.w.sup.9 C(.dbd.NR.sub.w.sup.10)NHR.sub.w.sup.10 in which n.sub.w is 0, R.sub.w.sup.9 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and each R.sub.w.sup.10 is the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, an unsubstituted phenyl group, a phenyl group substituted with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, halogen or nitro substituent a group of formula --COOR.sub.w.sup.7 wherein R.sub.w.sup.7 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl group or a benzyl group or
- a group of formula --COR.sub.w.sup.6 wherein R.sub.w.sup.6 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl group, an unsubstituted phenyl group or a phenyl group substituted with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, halogen or nitro substituent.
- 10. The compound of claim 1, wherein:
- R.sub.w.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom; and
- R.sub.w.sup.2 represents a group of formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.n.sbsb.w NR.sub.w.sup.9 C(.dbd.NR.sub.w.sup.10)R.sub.w.sup.6 in which n.sub.w is 0; R.sub.w.sup.9 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R.sub.w.sup.10 represents a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, an unsubstituted phenyl group, a phenyl group substituted with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, halogen or nitro substituent, a group of formula --COOR.sub.w.sup.7 wherein R.sub.w.sup.7 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl group or a benzyl group;
- or a group of formula --COR.sub.w.sup.6 wherein R.sub.w.sup.6 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl group, an unsubstituted phenyl group; or a phenyl group substituted with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, halogen or nitro substituent and R.sub.w.sup.6 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl group, an unsubstituted phenyl group or a phenyl group substituted with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, halogen or nitro substituent.
- 11. The compound of claim 1, wherein:
- R.sub.w.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom; and
- R.sub.w.sup.2 represents a group of formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.n.sbsb.w NR.sub.w.sup.9 SO.sub.m.sbsb.w R.sub.w.sup.6 in which n is 0, R.sub.w.sup.9 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, m is 1 or 2, and R.sup.6 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 cyanoalkyl group, an unsubstituted phenyl group, a phenyl group substituted with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, halogen or nitro substituent.
- 12. The compound of claim 1, wherein:
- R.sub.w.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom, and
- R.sub.w.sup.2 represents a group of formula --CONHR.sub.w.sup.6 in which R.sub.w.sup.6 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl group, an unsubstituted phenyl group or a phenyl group substituted with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy, halogen or nitro substituent.
- 13. The compound of claim 1, wherein R.sup.2 is attached at the p-position of the benzene ring.
- 14. The compound of claim 2, wherein R.sup.2 is attached at the p-position of the benzene ring.
- 15. The compound of claim 3, wherein R.sup.2 is attached at the p-position of the benzene ring.
- 16. The compound of claim 4, wherein R.sup.2 is attached at the p-position of the benzene ring.
- 17. The compound of claim 5, wherein R.sup.2 is attached at the p-position of the benzene ring.
- 18. The compound of claim 6, wherein R.sup.2 is attached at the p-position of the benzene ring.
- 19. The compound of claim 7, wherein R.sup.2 is attached at the p-position of the benzene ring.
- 20. The compound of claim 8, wherein R.sup.2 is attached at the p-position of the benzene ring.
- 21. The compound of claim 9, wherein R.sup.2 is attached at the p-position of the benzene ring.
- 22. The compound of claim 10, wherein R.sup.2 is attached at the p-position of the benzene ring.
- 23. The compound of claim 11, wherein R.sup.2 is attached at the p-position of the benzene ring.
- 24. The compound of claim 12, wherein R.sup.2 is attached at the p-position of the benzene ring.
- 25. The compound of claim 1, wherein:
- R.sub.w.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom, and
- R.sub.w.sup.2 represents a group of formula --COOR.sub.w.sup.7 in which R.sub.w.sup.7 represents a methyl, ethyl or benzyl group.
- 26. The compound of claim 1, wherein:
- R.sub.w.sup.1 represents a methoxy group, and
- R.sub.w.sup.2 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy group or a C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkoxyalkoxy group.
- 27. The compound of claim 1, wherein R.sub.w.sup.5 represents an ethyl group.
- 28. The compound of claim 1, which is a mixture of compounds wherein in one of said compounds R.sub.w.sup.5 represents an ethyl group and in the other of said compounds R.sub.w.sup.5 represents a methyl group.
- 29. The compound of claim 1, wherein R.sub.w.sup.3 and R.sub.w.sup.4 are hydrogen atoms.
- 30. The compound of claim 1, wherein X.sub.w represents a hydroxy group.
- 31. The compound of claim 1, wherein:
- R.sub.w.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom; and
- R.sub.w.sup.2 represents, at the p-position of the benzene ring:

- 57. The method of claim 54, wherein R.sub.w.sup.6 is an alkenyl group selected from the group consisting of a vinyl group and allyl group.
- 58. The compound of claim 25, wherein R.sub.w.sup.2 is an alkenyl group selected from the group consisting of a vinyl group and an allyl group.
- 59. The composition of claim 51, wherein R.sub.w.sup.6 is an alkenyl group selected from the group consisting of a vinyl group and an allyl group.
