- 14. A mine stopping as set forth in claim 13 wherein the stopping wall includes a plurality of panels positioned side-by-side across the passageway, upper ends of the panels defining the upper end of the stopping wall.
- 15. A mine stopping as set forth in claim 14 wherein the upper ends are secured to the anchor beam.
- 16. A brace for reinforcing a mine stopping system against deflection when the system is under load, the stopping system being installed in a mine passageway having a floor, a roof and opposing side walls, the brace comprising:
a chord having opposite ends adapted to be secured to respective side walls of the passageway adjacent the stopping; at least one structural member having at least one end secured to the chord and adapted to extend generally outwardly away from the stopping when the brace is installed adjacent the stopping; and a support connected to the at least one structural member and having an end adapted to engage the floor or the roof of the mine passageway for supporting the brace.
- 17. A brace set forth in claim 16 wherein the support extends from the structural member to the floor of the mine passageway.
- 18. A brace set forth in claim 16 wherein the support extends from the structural member to the roof of the mine passageway.
- 19. A brace set forth in claim 16 wherein the support is a column extending between the floor and roof of the mine passageway.
- 20. A brace set forth in claim 16 wherein the support includes an upper member attached to the brace and a lower member extensible relative to the upper member.
- 21. A brace set forth in claim 16 wherein the chord includes a central beam having opposite ends, and the at least one structural member includes struts and a web, each strut having a first end secured to the central beam and a second end secured to the web, the web extending between the central beam and the struts and wherein the support is connected to at least one of the struts and the web.
- 22. A brace set forth in claim 21 wherein the support is positioned generally at a center of the brace.
- 23. A brace adapted to extend between opposite side walls of a mine passageway comprising:
a central beam; and at least one slide member connected to the central beam and adapted for extensible movement relative to the central beam whereby the brace has a variable length; the central beam being I-beam shaped and the at least one slide member being channel shaped for mating engagement with the central beam.
