Claims
- 1. A method for producing individual folded labels having miter folded tabs, the method comprising the steps of:
providing a ribbon of labels, the ribbon of labels having opposed edges along its length; partially cutting the ribbon of labels to form a tab at each edge and at least one connection point disposed between the tabs; folding each of the tabs of the ribbon of material; and cutting the folded ribbon of labels along the at least one connection point to subdivide the ribbon of labels into individual folded labels.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of subjecting the folded ribbon of material to sufficient heat and pressure to set the folds.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of folding each of the tabs comprises simultaneously folding each tab at an angle to the at least one connection point.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of partially cutting the ribbon of labels comprises simultaneously cutting the label from both edges of the ribbon of labels to form the tabs and cutting an interior base cut.
- 5. A label produced by the method of claim 1.
- 6. A device for producing individual folded labels having miter folded tabs comprising:
a mechanism for linearly advancing a ribbon of labels, the ribbon of labels having opposed edges along its length; a first cutting means for partially cutting the ribbon of labels to form a tab at each edge of the ribbon of labels, the tabs being separated by at least one connection point; folding means for folding the tabs; and a second cutting means for ultrasonically cutting the ribbon of labels along the at least one connection point to subdivide the ribbon of labels into separate, individual labels.
- 7. The device of claim 6, wherein the first cutting means comprises an ultrasonic horn and knife.
- 8. The device of claim 7, wherein the knife includes at least one indentation for leaving the at least one connection point of the ribbon of labels uncut.
- 9. The device of claim 7, wherein the knife includes a pair of indentations along an upper edge thereof, the indentations being separated by a predetermined distance such that when the ribbon of labels is partially cut two spaced connection points remain.
- 10. The device of claim 9, wherein the predetermined distance corresponds to a base cut on the label.
- 11. The device of claim 6, wherein the folding station comprises a unshaped folding pan having a pair of upwardly extending sides and a support rod disposed between said sides.
- 12. The device of claim 11, further comprising a pair of folding plates disposed downstream of the folding pan, wherein the plates fold the tabs backward as the ribbon of labels advances through the folding station.
