Claims
- 1. Miter saw comprising:
- a base for placing a work thereon;
- a miter saw unit having a saw blade supported thereon, said miter saw unit being laterally pivotable relative to said base about a pivotal axis from a vertical position;
- a first stopper and a second stopper mounted on one and the other of said miter saw unit and said base, respectively, and operable to abut on each other in a pivotal direction of said miter saw unit for determining said vertical position of said miter saw unit;
- said first stopper being movable between a first position for abutment on said second stopper and a second position away from said first position, and said first stopper in said second position permitting said miter saw unit to pivot from said vertical position in said pivotal direction; and
- holding means for holding said first stopper in said first position and said second position when said miter saw unit is in said vertical position and a pivoted position in said pivotal direction, respectively, said holding means being operable to move said first stopper from said second position to said first position when said miter saw unit is moved from said pivoted position to said vertical position.
- 2. The miter saw as defined in claim 1 wherein said holding means includes biasing means and wall means, said biasing means serving to normally bias said first stopper in a direction toward said first position, and said wall means being provided on the other of said base and said miter saw unit, so that, when an operator releases said first stopper after the operator moves said first stopper from said first position to said second position and after said miter saw unit is pivoted from said vertical position toward said pivoted position, said first stopper is held in said second position by said wall means against the biasing force of said biasing means, and so that said first stopper is moved from said second position to said first position by the biasing force of said biasing means when said miter saw unit returns from said pivoted position to said vertical position.
- 3. The miter saw as defined in claim 2 wherein said first stopper is pivotable between said first position and said second position about an axis parallel to said pivotal axis of said miter saw unit, and wherein said wall means includes a first surface having an arcuate configuration about said pivotal axis, so that said first stopper in said second position slidably contacts said first surface.
- 4. The miter saw as defined in claim 3 further including second wall means provided on the other of said base and said miter saw unit, said second wall means including a second surface having an arcuate configuration about said pivotal axis, said second surface having a diameter different from that of said first surface and being formed in continuity with said first surface via a stepped portion, so that said first stopper is held in said first position through abutment on said second surface when said miter saw unit is in said vertical position.
- 5. The miter saw as defined in claim 2 wherein said first stopper is movable between said first position and said second position in an axial direction parallel to said pivotal axis, and wherein said wall means includes a flat surface which confronts said first stopper in said axial direction when said miter saw unit is in said pivoted position, so that said first stopper in said second position slidably abuts on said flat surface.
- 6. The miter saw as defined in claim 5 wherein said first stopper is slidably movable in said axial direction relative to one of said base and said miter saw unit, and further including means provided on one of said base and said miter saw unit for holding said first stopper in said first position when said miter saw unit is in said vertical position.
