Claims
- 1. In vehicular air conditioning systems including a compressor, a condenser, an evaporator, and refrigerant flow control apparatus coupled between the condenser and the evaporator, wherein the cooling capacity of the air conditioning system changes with engine speed, the speed of movement, and the environment in which the vehicle is operating, a method for controlling the air conditioning system to compensate for environmental changes including the steps comprising:sensing the environment in which the vehicle is operating, and controlling the flow of refrigerant between the condenser and the evaporator through the flow control apparatus as a function of the environment in a direction to enhance the cooling capacity of the air conditioning system.
- 2. A method as defined in claim 1 wherein:the impact of the sun's radiation on the environment in which the vehicle is operating is sensed.
- 3. A method as defined in claim 1 wherein:the ambient temperature of the environment is sensed.
- 4. A method as defined in claim 1 wherein:at least one of the ambient temperature and humidity of the environment is sensed.
- 5. A method as defined in claim 1 including the steps of:sensing the refrigerant pressure adjacent the evaporator, and controlling the flow of refrigerant through the flow control apparatus as a function of the sensed refrigerant pressure.
- 6. A method as defined in claim 1 including the steps of:sensing the temperature in the passenger compartment of the vehicle, and controlling the flow of refrigerant in the air conditioning system as a function of the sensed passenger compartment temperature.
