The present invention relates to a mobile device and an optical imaging lens thereof, and particularly, relates to a mobile device applying an optical imaging lens having five lens elements and an optical imaging lens thereof.
The ever-increasing demand for smaller sized mobile devices, such as cell phones, digital cameras, etc. correspondingly triggered a growing need for a smaller sized photography module, comprising elements such as an optical imaging lens, a module housing unit, and an image sensor, etc., contained therein. Size reductions may be contributed from various aspects of the mobile devices, which includes not only the charge coupled device (CCD) and the complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS), but also the optical imaging lens mounted therein. When reducing the size of the optical imaging lens, however, achieving good optical characteristics becomes a challenging problem.
U.S. Patent Publication No. 20110176049, U.S. Patent Publication No. 20110316969 and U.S. Pat. No. 7,480,105 all disclosed an optical imaging lens constructed by five lens elements in which the first one has negative refracting power. The length of the optical imaging lens disclosed in U.S. Patent Publication No. 20110176049 reaches 11 mm, and this is too long for smaller sized mobile devices. Therefore, there is needed to develop optical imaging lens which is capable to place with five lens elements therein, with a shorter length, while also having good optical characters.
An object of the present invention is to provide a mobile device and an optical imaging lens thereof. With controlling the convex or concave shape of the surfaces and/or the refracting power of the lens elements, the length of the optical imaging lens is shortened and meanwhile the good optical characters, and system functionality are sustained.

Here in the present specification, “a lens element having positive refracting power (or negative refracting power)” means that the lens element has positive refracting power (or negative refracting power) in the vicinity of the optical axis. “An object-side (or image-side) surface of a lens element comprises a convex (or concave) portion in a specific region” means that the object-side (or image-side) surface of the lens element “protrudes outwardly (or depresses inwardly)” along the direction parallel to the optical axis at the specific region, compared with the outer region radially adjacent to the specific region. Taking
Example embodiments of an optical imaging lens may comprise a first lens element, a second lens element, a third lens element, a fourth lens element and a fifth lens element, each of the lens elements comprises an object-side surface facing toward an object side and an image-side surface facing toward an image side. These lens elements may be arranged sequencially from the object side to the image side along an optical axis, and example embodiments of the lens as a whole may comprise only the five lens elements having refracting power. In an example embodiment: the first lens element has positive refracting power, and the image-side surface thereof comprises a convex portion in a vicinity of a periphery of the first lens element; the object-side surface of the second lens element comprises a convex portion in a vicinity of a periphery of the second lens element; the object-side surface of the third lens element comprises a convex portion in a vicinity of the optical axis and a concave portion in a vicinity of a periphery of the third lens element; the fifth lens element is constructed by plastic, the object-side surface thereof comprises a concave portion in a vicinity of the optical axis, and the image-side surface thereof comprises a concave portion in a vicinity of the optical axis.
Preferably, the lens elements are designed in light of the optical characteristics and the length of the optical imaging lens. For example, the first lens element having positive refracting power provides the positive refracting power required in the optical imaging lens and the convex portion in the vicinity of a periphery thereof assists in light converge ability of the optical imaging lens. All the details of shape on the surfaces of the lens elements, such as the convex portion in a vicinity of a periphery of the second lens element on the object-side surface thereof, the convex portion in a vicinity of the optical axis and the concave portion in a vicinity of a periphery of the third lens element on the object-side surface thereof, the concave portion in a vicinity of the optical axis on the object-side surface of the fifth lens element, and the concave portion in a vicinity of the optical axis on the image-side surface of the fifth lens element, could assist in eliminating the aberration of the optical imaging lens. Additionally, all these details could promote the image quality of the whole system.
In the present invention, the fifth lens element is made by plastic to reduce the cost for manufacturing as well as the weight of the optical imaging lens.

Aforesaid exemplary embodiments are not limited and could be selectively incorporated in other embodiments described herein.
Reference is now made to Equations (1) and (1′). BFL is shortened along with the shortening of the length of the optical imaging lens, but the possible range of the shortening of the air gap between the fourth and fifth lens element, i.e. G45, is limited by the concave portion in a vicinity of the optical axis formed on the object-side surface thereof, and these characters form a cap of the value of BFL/G45. The value of BFL/G45 is preferably smaller than or equal to 6.80 to satisfy Equation (1) when BFL is effectively shortened and more preferably smaller than or equal to 6.00 to satisfy Equation (1′) to facilitate assembly process. Additionally, the value of BFL/G45 is suggested for a lower limit, such as 3.00≦BFL/G45≦6.80.
Reference is now made to Equations (2) and (2′). The air gap between the third and fourth lens elements, i.e. G34, is required for a certain value for allowing light to enter the fourth lens element within a suitable range. Therefore, G34 could be only shortened limitedly and this forms a cap of the value of T4/G34. The value of T4/G34 is preferable less than or equal to 2.00 to satisfy Equation (2), and more preferably, less than or equal to 1.40 to satisfy Equation (2′). Additionally, the value of T4/G34 is suggested for a lower limit, such as 0.50≦T4/G34≦2.00.
Reference is now made to Equation (3). As mentioned above, BFL is shortened along with the shortening of the optical imaging lens. However, considering of the greater surface area for passing light of the fifth lens element than some other lens elements, the shortening of the thickness of the fifth lens element is limited for reducing the difficulty faced in the manufacturing process. These characters form a cap of the value of BFL/T5. The value of BFL/T5 is preferable less than or equal to 3.30 to satisfy Equation (3). Additionally, the value of BFL/T5 is suggested for a lower limit, such as 1.20≦BFL/T5≦3.30.
Reference is now made to Equations (4). As mentioned above, the shortening of G45 is limited by the concave portion in a vicinity of the optical axis formed on the object-side surface thereof, but T4 is shortened along with the shortening of the length of the optical imaging lens. Therefore, the value of T4/G45 is preferable less than or equal to 3.00 to satisfy Equation (4). Additionally, the value of T4/G45 is suggested for a lower limit, such as 1.00≦T4/G45≦3.00.
Reference is now made to Equation (5). The shortening of any of G45, T1 and T3 is limited for some reasons. For G45, the reason is mentioned above and here it is not repeated. For T1, it is because of the positive refracting power, and for T3, it is because of the convex portion in a vicinity of the optical axis on the object-side surface. Therefore, considering of the difficulty faced in the manufacturing process and optical characters of the optical imaging lens, the value of (T1+T3)/G45 is preferable within 2.0˜06.00 to satisfy Equation (5). Then, the configuration for the values of T1, T3 and G45 could be better.
Reference is now made to Equation (6). The shortening of any of G45, T3 and T5 is limited for some reasons. For G45 and T3, the reasons are mentioned above and here they are not repeated. For T5, it is because of the greater surface area for passing light. Therefore, the value of (T5+G45)/T3 is preferable within 1.75˜2.80 to satisfy Equation (6). Then, the configuration for the values of T3, T5 and G45 could be better.
Reference is now made to Equation (7). This equation is under the presupposition of satisfying Equation (2) and/or (2′). Considering of limiting the value of T4 and that the value of EFL could be reduced along with the shortening of the length of the optical imaging lens, the value of EFL/T4 is preferable greater than or equal to 5.60 to satisfy Equation (6). Additionally, the value of EFL/T4 is suggested for an upper limit, such as 5.60≦EFL/T4≦10.00.
Reference is now made to Equation (8). G23 is required for considering of the interference which may occur between the edges of the second and third lens element. The shortening of G45 is limited for the reason as mentioned above and here it is not repeated. Therefore, considering of the difficulty faced in the manufacturing process and the optical characters of the optical imaging lens, the value of G45/G23 is preferable within 0.80˜2.00. Then, the configuration for the values of G23 and G45 could be better.
Reference is now made to Equations (9) and (9′). As mentioned before, G34 is required for a certain value for allowing light passing from the third lens element having a smaller surface area for passing light to enter the fourth lens element having a greater surface area for passing light, thus G34 could be only shortened limitedly. Therefore, the value of G34/G23 is preferable greater than or equal to 1.10 to satisfy Equation (9) for a better configuration of the values of G23 and G34, and more preferable, greater than or equal to 1.90 to satisfy Equation (9′) for a better configuration of the values of G23, G34 as well as the values of other parameters. Additionally, the value of G34/G23 is suggested for an upper limit, such as 1.10≦G34/G23≦3.00.
Reference is now made to Equation (10). The shortening of any of G45, T3 and T5 is limited for some reasons, and the reasons are mentioned above thus here they are not repeated. Considering of the difficulty faced in the manufacturing process and the optical characters of the optical imaging lens, the value of (T3+T5)/G45 is preferable within 1.80˜7.00 to satisfy Equation (10) for a better configuration of the values of T3, T5 and G45.
Reference is now made to Equation (11). As mentioned above, BFL is shortened along with the shortening of the optical imaging lens, and G34 is required for a certain value for allowing light to enter the fourth lens element within a suitable range. Therefore, value of BFL/G34 is preferable less than or equal to 2.80 to satisfy Equation (11) for a better configuration of the values of BFL and G34. Additionally, the value of (T5+AG45)/T4 is suggested for a lower limit, such as 1.50≦(T5+AG45)/T4≦2.80.
Reference is now made to Equation (12). The shortening of any of T1 and G45 is limited for some reasons, and the reasons are mentioned above thus here they are not repeated. Considering of the difficulty faced in the manufacturing process and the optical characters of the optical imaging lens, the value of T1/G45 is preferable within 1.20˜3.50 to satisfy Equation (12). Then, the configuration for the values of T1 and G45 could be better.
Reference is now made to Equation (13). When the length of the optical imaging lens, i.e. TTL, is shortened, all the air gaps and thicknesses of the lens elements are shortened too. Thus, the value of TTL/Dmax is preferable less than or equal to 6.50 to satisfy Equation (13). However, considering of the technological limit of the manufacturing process, all these air gaps and thicknesses of the lens elements are not possible shortened without limitation. Therefore, the value of TTL/Dmax is suggested for an upper limit, such as 6.50≦TTL/Dmax≦9.00.
Reference is now made to Equation (14). EFL is shortened along with the shortening of the optical imaging lens, but G23 is required for considering of the interference which may occur between the edges of the second and third lens element. Considering of the difficulty faced in the manufacturing process and the optical characters of the optical imaging lens, the value of EFL/G23 is preferable within 12.20˜22.00 to satisfy Equation (14). Then, the configuration for the values of EFL and G23 could be better.
Reference is now made to Equation (15). The shortening of any of T1 and G23 is limited for some reasons, and the reasons are mentioned above thus here they are not repeated. Considering of the difficulty faced in the manufacturing process and the optical characters of the optical imaging lens, the value of T1/G23 is preferable within 1.65˜3.50 to satisfy Equation (15) for a better configuration of the values of T1 and G23.
When implementing example embodiments, more details about the convex or concave surface structure and/or the refracting power may be incorporated for one specific lens element or broadly for plural lens elements to enhance the control for the system performance and/or resolution, as illustrated in the following embodiments. In some other example embodiments, the structure of the filtering unit 160 may be omitted. In some example embodiments, the housing 21, the lens barrel 23, and/or the module housing unit 24 may be integrated into a single component or assembled by multiple components. In some example embodiments, the image sensor 171 used in the present embodiment is directly attached to a substrate 172 in the form of a chip on board (COB) package, and such package is different from traditional chip scale packages (CSP) since COB package does not require a cover glass before the image sensor 171 in the optical imaging lens 1. Aforesaid exemplary embodiments are not limited to this package type and could be selectively incorporated in other described embodiments.
The five lens elements 110, 120, 130, 140, 150 are positioned in the lens barrel 23 in the way of separated by an air gap between any two adjacent lens elements.
The module housing unit 24 comprises a lens backseat 2401 for positioning the lens barrel 23 and an image sensor base 2406 positioned between the lens backseat 2401 and the image sensor 171. The lens barrel 23 and the lens backseat 2401 are positioned along a same axis I-I′, and the lens backseat 2401 is close to the outside of the lens barrel 23. The image sensor base 2406 is exemplarily close to the lens backseat 2401 here. The image sensor base 2406 could be optionally omitted in some other embodiments of the present invention.
Because the length of the optical imaging lens 1 is merely 3.23 mm, the size of the mobile device 20 may be quite small. Therefore, the embodiments described herein meet the market demand for smaller sized product designs.
Reference is now made to
The lens barrel 23 and the optical imaging lens 1 positioned therein are driven by the first seat unit 2402 for moving along the axis I-I′. The rest structure of the mobile device 20′ is similar to the mobile device 20.
Similarly, because the length of the optical imaging lens 1, 3.23 mm, is shortened, the mobile device 20′ may be designed with a smaller size and meanwhile good optical performance is still provided. Therefore, the present embodiment meets the demand of small sized product design and the request of the market.
According to above illustration, it is clear that the mobile device and the optical imaging lens thereof in example embodiments, through controlling the detail structure and/or reflection power of the lens elements, the length of the optical imaging lens is effectively shortened and meanwhile good optical characters are still provided.
