Claims
- 1. A system comprising:
a handheld device including a code; and a reader/scanner device, said reader/scanner device including,
a code reader that reads said code, and a biometric reader that captures a biometric image of an individual holding said handheld device.
- 2. The system of claim 1, wherein said code is machine readable code.
- 3. The system of claim 1, wherein said code is one-dimensional bar code.
- 4. The system of claim 1, wherein said code is two-dimensional bar code.
- 5. The system of claim 1, wherein said code corresponds to biometric data.
- 6. The system of claim 1, wherein said biometric image corresponds to a fingerprint of said individual.
- 7. The system of claim 1, wherein said handheld device is an identification device.
- 8. The system of claim 1, wherein said handheld device is a smartcard.
- 9. The system of claim 1, wherein said code reader reads machine readable code.
- 10. The system of claim 1, wherein said code reader is a bar code reader.
- 11. The system of claim 1, wherein the reader/scanner device further comprises:
a CODE input device that activates the code reader.
- 12. The system of claim 1, wherein the reader/scanner device further comprises:
a FINGER input device that activates the finger reader.
- 13. A method comprising the steps of:
reading and storing live biometric data of an individual; reading code data associated with a handheld device held by said individual; storing said read code data; decoding said code data and storing said decoded data; extracting live biometric data from said stored live biometric data; and determining whether said extracted live biometric data matches with said decoded data.
- 14. The method of claim 13, wherein said reading live biometric data and said reading code data are done with one device.
- 15. The method of claim 13, wherein said code is machine readable code.
- 16. The method of claim 13, wherein said code is one-dimensional bar code.
- 17. The method of claim 13, wherein said code is two-dimensional bar code.
- 18. The method of claim 13, wherein said code corresponds to biometric data.
- 19. The method of claim 13, wherein said biometric image corresponds to a fingerprint of said individual.
- 20. The method of claim 13, wherein said handheld device is a identification device.
- 21. The method of claim 13, wherein said handheld device is a smartcard.
- 22. The method of claim 13, wherein said code reader reads machine readable code.
- 23. The method of claim 13, wherein said code reader is a bar code reader.
- 24. The method of claim 13, further comprising the steps of:
performing said extracting step after transmitting said stored live biometric data to a remote device; and performing said determining step in said remote device.
- 25. The method of claim 13, wherein if said determining step fails, further comprising the step of comparing said extracted live biometric data to all data in a database to determine if it matches with any of said data in said database.
- 26. A method of confirming an identity of an individual using a reader/scanner device comprising the steps of:
reading fingerprint data of the individual; extracting minutia from said fingerprint data and saving said minutia in a memory; reading a bar code on a handheld device held by the individual and storing said bar code data in said memory; converting said code data into decoded data, and storing said decoded data in said memory; and determining whether said minutia matches with said decoded data.
- 27. The method of claim 26, further comprising performing said extracting and said determining steps in a remote device.
- 28. The method of claim 26, wherein if said determining step fails further comprising the steps of comparing said extracted live biometric data to all data in a database to determine if it matches with any of said data in said database.
- 29. A mobile handheld biometric security device comprising:
a code reader that reads a code representation of biometric data provided on a handheld device; a biometric reader that captures biometric images of an individual holding the handheld device.
- 30. The mobile security device of claim 29, further comprising:
an indicator that provides an indication of whether biometric data read by the code reader matches biometric data obtained from the biometric image captured by the biometric reader.
- 31. The mobile security device of claim 30, wherein:
said code reader comprises a window in a same wall as the indicator; and said biometric reader comprises a window in another wall.
- 32. The mobile security device of claim 30, wherein:
said coder reader comprises a window in a wall opposite a wall having the indicator; and said biometric reader comprises a window on a wall located between the wall with the indicator and the wall with the coder reader.
