Claims
- 1. A radio telecommunication apparatus for use in a radio telecommunication system, wherein the system encompasses a plurality of areas each having at least one base station, the apparatus comprising:
- first receiving means for receiving a plurality of first signals from a plurality of the base stations;
- detecting means for detecting a quality of each first signal;
- determining means for determining at least one of the base stations from which the detected quality of the corresponding first signal is higher than a first criterion;
- select means responsive to the determining means for selecting one of the determined base stations;
- establish means for establishing a synchronization with the selected base station;
- second receiving means, in response to the establish means, for receiving a second signal transmitted by the selected base station; and
- maintain means for maintaining the established synchronization if the quality of the second received signal is higher than a second criterion which is smaller than the first criterion, even when the second signal received from the selected base station is not presently the highest quality signal.
- 2. The radio telecommunications apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the maintain means is configured to maintain synchronization even if one of the base stations, other than the synchronized base station, provides to the apparatus a signal having a quality higher than the second signal.
- 3. Radio telecommunication apparatus for use in a radio telecommunication system, wherein the system encompasses a plurality of areas each having at least one base station, the apparatus comprising:
- first receiving means for receiving a plurality of first signals from a plurality of the base stations continuously;
- detecting means for detecting a quality of each of the first signals;
- determining means for determining at least one of the base stations from which the detected quality of the corresponding first signal is higher than a first criterion;
- selecting means for selecting one of the base stations based on the received first signal;
- second receiving means, in response to the selecting means, for receiving a second signal from the selected base station; and
- maintaining means for maintaining communication with the selected base station if a quality of the received second signal is higher than a second criterion which is smaller than the first criterion, even when the second signal received from the selected base station is not presently the highest quality signal.
- 4. The radio telecommunication apparatus according to claim 3, further comprising first criterion setting means for setting the first criterion.
- 5. The radio telecommunication apparatus according to claim 3, further comprising second criterion setting means for setting the second criterion.
- 6. The radio telecommunications apparatus according to claim 3, further comprising establish means for establishing a sychronization with the selected base station, wherein the maintaining means is configured to maintain synchronization even if one of the base stations, other than the synchronized base station, provides to the apparatus a signal having a quality higher than the second signal.
- 7. Radio telecommunications apparatus for use in a radio telecommunications system, wherein the system encompasses a plurality of areas each having at least one base station, the apparatus comprising:
- first receiving means for receiving a plurality of first signals from a plurality of the base stations continuously;
- detecting means for detecting a strength of each of the first signals;
- determining means for determining at least one of the base stations from which the detected strength of the corresponding first signal is higher than a first criterion;
- selecting means for selecting one of the base stations based on the received first signal;
- second receiving means, in response to the selecting means, for receiving a second signal from the selected base station; and
- maintaining means for maintaining the communication with the selected base station if the strength of the received second signal is higher than a second criterion which is smaller than the first criterion, even when the second signal received from the selected base station is not presently the highest strength signal.
- 8. The radio telecommunications apparatus according to claim 7, further comprising establish means for establishing a synchronization with the selected base station, wherein the maintaining means is configured to maintain synchronization even if one of the base stations, other than the synchronized base station, provides to the apparatus a signal having a strength higher than the second signal.
- 9. Radio telecommunication apparatus for use in a radio telecommnunication system, wherein the system encompasses a plurality of areas each having at least one base station, the apparatus comprising:
- first receiving means for receiving a plurality of first signals from a plurality of the base stations continuously;
- determining means for determining at least one of the base stations from which the quality of the corresponding first signal is higher than a first criterion;
- selecting means for selecting one of the base stations based on the received first signal;
- second receiving means, in response to the selecting means, for receiving a second signal from the selected base station; and
- maintaining means for maintaining the communication with the selected base station if the quality of the received second signal is higher than a second criterion which is smaller than the first criterion, even when the second signal received from the selected base station is not presently the highest quality signal.
- 10. The radio telecommunications apparatus according to claim 9, further comprising establish means for establishing a synchronization with the selected base station, wherein the maintaining means is configured to maintain synchronization even if one of the base stations, other than the synchronized base station, provides to the apparatus a signal having a quality higher than the second signal.
- 11. Radio telecommunication apparatus for use in a radio telecommunication system, wherein the system encompasses a plurality of areas each having at least one base station, the apparatus comprising:
- first receiving means for receiving a plurality of first signals from a plurality of the base stations continuously;
- detect means for detecting a quality of each of the first signals;
- determining means for determining at least one of the base stations from which the detected quality of the corresponding first signal is higher than a first criterion;
- synchronizing means for synchronizing with the determined base station;
- second receiving means, in response to the synchronizing means, for receiving a second signal from the synchronized base station; and
- maintaining means for maintaining the communication with the synchronized base station if the quality of the received second signal is higher than a second criterion which is smaller than the first criterion, even when the second signal received from the synchonized base station is not presently the highest quality signal.
- 12. The radio telecommunications apparatus according to claim 11, wherein the maintaining means is configured to maintain synchronization even if one of the base stations, other than the synchronized base station, provides to the apparatus a signal having a quality higher than the second signal.
- 13. Radio telecommunication apparatus for use in a radio telecommunication system, wherein the system encompasses a plurality of areas each having at least one base station, the apparatus comprising:
- first receiving means for receiving a plurality of first signals from a plurality of the base stations continuously;
- detecting means for detecting a strength of each of the first signals;
- determining means for determining at least one of the base stations from which the detected strength of the corresponding first signal is higher than a first criterion;
- synchronizing means for synchronizing with the determined base station;
- second receiving means, in response to the synchronizing means, for receiving a second signal from the synchronized base station; and
- maintaining means for maintaining the communication with the synchronized base station if the strength of the received second signal is higher than a second criterion which is smaller than the first criterion, even when the second signal received from the synchronized base station is not presently the highest strength signal.
- 14. The radio telecommunications apparatus according to claim 13, wherein the maintaining means is configured to maintain synchronization even if one of the base stations, other than the synchronized base station, provides to the apparatus a signal having a quality higher than the second signal.
- 15. Radio telecommunication apparatus for use in a radio telecommunication system, wherein the system encompasses a plurality of areas each having at least one base station, the apparatus comprising:
- first receiving means for receiving a plurality of first signals from a plurality of the base stations continuously;
- determining means for determining at least one of the base stations from which the quality of the corresponding first signal is higher than a first criterion;
- synchronizing means for synchronizing with the determined base station;
- second receiving means, in response to the synchronizing means, for receiving a second signal from the synchronized base station; and
- maintaining means for maintaining the communication with the synchronized base station if the quality of the received second signal is higher than a second criterion which is smaller than the first criterion, even when the second signal received from the synchronized base station is not presently the highest quality signal.
- 16. The radio telecommunications apparatus according to claim 15, wherein the maintaining means is configured to maintain synchronization even if one of the base stations, other than the synchronized base station, provides to the apparatus a signal having a quality higher than the second signal.
- 17. A radio telecommunication apparatus for use in a radio telecommunication system, wherein the system encompasses a plurality of areas each having at least one base station, the apparatus comprising:
- first receiving on figured to receive a plurality of first signal from a plurality of base stations;
- a detector configured to detect the quality of each first signal;
- a determining circuit configured to determine at least one base station from which the detected quality of the corresponding first signal is higher than a first criterion;
- a selector configured to select responsive to the determining circuit one of the determined base stations;
- an establish synchronization circuit configured to establish synchronization with the selected base station;
- a second receiver configured to receive in response to the synchronization circuit a second signal; and
- a maintain synchronization circuit configured to maintain the established synchronization if the quality of the second received signal is higher than a second criterion, which is smaller than the first criterion, even when the second signal received from the selected base station is not presently the highest quality signal.
- 18. The radio telecommunications apparatus according to claim 17, wherein the maintain synchronization circuit is configured to maintain synchronization even if one of the base stations, other than the synchronized base station, provides to the apparatus a signal having a quality higher than the second signal.
