Claims
- 1. A method of forming an apparatus for detecting track occupancy on a model railroad layout (4), comprising the steps of:providing a two terminal current detection arrangement (52,53), an attenuator arrangement (56,57,59,60), a comparison logic device (61), short circuit link (67), and a ground connection (65); connecting first and second terminals of said two terminal current detection arrangement to said attenuator arrangement to produce Vtrk and Vref voltages; connecting said Vtrk and Vref voltages to said comparison logic device (61) for processing; positioning said short circuit link for selective connecting and disconnecting said second terminal to said ground connection so to configure said apparatus to selectively operate in a common rail wiring operating mode, in which said short circuit link electrically connects said second terminal to said ground connection, and in a direct home wiring operating mode, in which said short circuit link disconnects said second terminal from said ground connection.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said apparatus includes a stray feeder capacitance (62) connected to operate with said two terminal current detection arrangement, and further including the step of configuring said comparison logic device so as to be capable of processing said Vtrk and Vref voltages at a predetermined transient filtering time, with said short circuit link connecting said second terminal to said ground connection.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein said apparatus includes a stray feeder capacitance (62) connected to operate with said two terminal current detection arrangement, and further including the step of configuring said comparison logic device so as to be capable of processing said Vtrk and Vref voltages at a predetermined transient filtering time, with said short circuit link disconnecting said second terminal from said ground connection.
- 4. The method of claim 1, further including the step of configuring said comparison logic device to analyze said Vref voltage to determine an energization state of a booster (1) adapted for powering said railroad layout, with said short circuit link disconnecting said second terminal from said ground connection.
- 5. The method of claim 1, further including the steps of configuring said comparison logic device to analyze said Vtrk and Vref voltages so as to detect a connection status of said short circuit link and to determine whether said direct home wiring operating mode is in effect.
- 6. The method of claim 1, further including the steps of providing blocking diodes (55,58) connected between said antenuator arrangement and said two terminal current detection arrangement for regulating a proper level of said Vtrk and Vref voltages applied to said comparison logic device.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein said apparatus includes a stray feeder capacitance (62) connected to operate with said two terminal current detection arrangement, and further including the step of configuring said comparison logic device so as to be capable of processing said Vtrk and Vref voltages at a predetermined transient filtering time, regardless of a selected position of said short circuit link.
- 8. The method of claim 6, further including the steps of configuring said comparison logic device to analyze said Vref voltage to determine an energization state of a booster (1) adapted for powering said railroad layout, with said short circuit link disconnecting said second terminal from said ground connection.
