Claims
- 1. A method for creating a plurality of redundant transponder responses within a reply in a transponder device (11) on a model railroad layout (4) comprising the steps of: providing said transponder device (11) communicating with said model railroad layout (4), providing transponder current generating means (70) for creating said plurality of redundant transponder responses with controlled magnitude and durations, providing a transponder timing generator means (71) that controls said transponder current generating means in response to predefined time periods that said transponder timing generator means decodes from a track voltage encoding method, and arranging said redundant transponder responses to function with a transponder detector including a multiplex selector (74) to multiplex current sensors (5), wherein each said current sensor is connected to a separate track section for detecting the transponder device on an occupied track section.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein four redundant transponder responses permits at least a four-way multiplex of said current sensors in said transponder detector.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said transponder detector additionally employs an echo detection capability to detect any valid transponder response and reject invalid detection pulses.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein said plurality of redundant transponder responses is interpreted as identification acknowledgement (ID_ACK) for location determination.
- 5. The method of claim 4 wherein any additional transponder responses after said plurality of redundant transponder responses is other pre-determined data encoding that does not require redundancy and multiplexing.
- 6. An apparatus for detection of a plurality of redundant transponder responses from a transponder device (11) on a model railroad layout (4) comprising said transponder device (11) configured to produce said plurality of redundant transponder responses, a plurality of layout current sensors (5) arranged on said model railroad layout (4) and communicating with a multiplex selector (74) connected to at least a conditioning means (6) communicating to a decision logic means (9) that includes a detection algorithm to control said multiplex selector (74) via control link (75), whereby said detection algorithm sequences and controls said multiplex selector (74) to allow detection of a valid transponder response from said plurality of layout current sensors (5).
- 7. The apparatus of claim 6 wherein pre-conditioning amplifiers (76) are included to permit a modification of outputs of said plurality of layout current sensors (5) prior to communication to said multiplex selector (74).
- 8. The apparatus of claim 6 wherein said plurality of redundant transponder responses are detected as an ID_ACK grouping to provide location information.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein an echo discriminating detection means is provided to facilitate a determination of location information upon a detection of said ID_ACK grouping.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 6 wherein said plurality of layout current sensors (5) comprises four current sensors and said multiplex selector (74) with at least four input channels that permit detection of up to four redundant transponder responses.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein said detection algorithm to control said multiplex selector (74) allows transponder responses subsequent to said ID_ACK grouping to be detected as a pre-determined data encoding.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 11 wherein said pre-determined data encoding may be detected without employing an echo discriminating detection means.
