Claims
- 1. A multiple phase modulator for converting an input constituting a digitized bit stream, wherein each given number of successive bits defines a symbol, into a phase modulated signal, comprising
- means for grouping a plurality of successive bits into symbols;
- a digitally implemented filter for shaping and generating a phase representative signal from each of said symbols in accordance with the specification of the frequency channel over which each of said symbols is transmitted, each of said phase representative signals comprising the combined time shared, digital in-phase (I) and quadrature phase (Q) components of the symbols to be transmitted;
- a digital-to-analog converter for converting each of said signals to be transmitted to an analog signal; and
- means for transmitting said analog signals.
- 2. The modulator of claim 1 wherein a bandpass filter receives the output of said digital-to-analog converter to separate desired from undesired analog signals therein.
- 3. The modulator of claim 2 wherein an upconverter receives the output of said bandpass filter to increase the frequency of said desired analog signals.
- 4. The modulator of claim 1 which includes means to provide a Gray-code to each symbol.
