Claims
- 1. In an electrostatic spray gun for spraying electrostatically-charged atomizing liquid with the assistance of an atomizing gas flow is an atomizing gas flow path in said gun and with the assistance of a fan gas flow vaporous amine line connected with either or both of said atomizing gas flow or said fan gas flow, and means actuable in the absence of vaporous amine flow in said vaporous amine line to cause a heated non-amine purge gas to flow through and purge either or both of said atomizing gas flow path or said fan gas flow path for maintaining a desired flow path temperature adequate for suppressing amine condensation in said gun.
- 2. The electrostatic spray gun of claim 1 wherein either or both of said flow paths temperature ranges from between about 30.degree. and 65.degree. C.
- 3. The electrostatic spray gun of claim 1 wherein said vaporous amine line is connected to said atomizing gas flow path in said gun, said atomizing gas flow path in said gun being separate from said fan gas flow path in said gun, and the pressure of gas in said fan gas flow path being greater than the pressure of the vaporous amine in said atomizing gas flow path in said gun.
- 4. The electrostatic spray gun of claim 1 wherein said fan gas flow comprises air.
- 5. In a method for electrostatically spraying atomized liquid with an electrostatic spray gun with the assistance of an atomizing gas flow in an atomizing gas flow path in said gun and with the assistance of a fan gas flow in a fan gas flow path in said gun, the improvement which comprises passing a vaporous amine into either or both of said atomizing gas flow or said fan gas flow; and actuating actuable means in the absence of vaporous amine flow to cause a heated non-amine purge gas to flow through and purge either or both of said atomizing gas flow path or said fan gas flow path for maintaining a desired flow path temperature adequate for suppressing amine condensation in said gun.
- 6. The method of claim 5 wherein said purge gas comprises air.
- 7. The method of claim 5 wherein either or both of said flow paths is maintained at a temperature of between about 30.degree. and 65.degree. C.
- 8. The method of claim 5 wherein said vaporous amine is passed through said atomizing gas flow path in said gun, said atomizing gas flow path in said gun being separate from said fan gas flow path in said gun, the pressure of gas in said fan gas flow path being adjusted to be greater than the pressure of the vaporous amine in said atomizing gas flow path in said gun.
- 9. The method of claim 5 wherein said fan gas flow comprises air.
- 10. The method of claim 8 wherein said heated gas is passed continuously through said fan gas flow path in said gun.
- 11. The method of claim 10 wherein said purge gas comprises air.
