Claims
- 1. In a bowling alley having first and second adjacent lanes and an approach area for said first and second lanes, a modular approach fill system for filling in the gap between the approach areas of said first and second lanes, comprising:
- a. an approach fill module formed from a plurality of hardwood strips adhesively bonded side to side in a single layer;
- b. an approach fill support including slat means having one side coupled to the approach area deck of said first lane and a second side coupled to the approach area deck of said second lane for supporting the lower surface of said approach fill module and for maintaining the upper surface of said module level with the upper surface of the approach area of said first and second lanes; and
- c. clip means coupled to the lower surface of said approach fill module for coupling said approach fill module to said slat means.
- 2. The modular approach fill system of claim 1 wherein said clip means comprises a plurality of clips coupled to the lower surface of said approach fill module.
- 3. The modular approach fill system of claim 1 wherein said slat means are coupled to the approach lane decks of the first and second lanes by securing means which comprises:
- a. a passageway in the first and second ends of each slat of said slat means;
- b. fastening means disposed within a vertical passageway extending upward from the lower surface of the approach area decks of said first and second lanes; and
- c. first and second bolts passing vertically upward through the passageways in the ends of said slat into said fastening means in said first and second lanes for securing each said slat to the approach area decks of said first and second lanes.
- 4. The modular approach fill system of claim 3 wherein the passageways in the first and second ends of said slat further include first and second open-ended grooves.
- 5. The modular approach fill system of claim 4 wherein the groove in the first end of said slat is substantially longer than the groove in the second end of said slat to permit said slat to be fitted to said bolts after said bolts have been secured to said fastening means.
- 6. The modular approach fill system of claim 1 wherein the upper surface of said approach fill module is covered with a plastic laminate.
- 7. The modular approach fill system of claim 1 wherein each of said slats of said slat means includes side surfaces and upper and lower surfaces and wherein each slat is secured to the respective first and second lanes by clamping means coupled to the lower surface of each said approach area deck at first and second points for permitting one end of said slat to be inserted within said clamping means when said clamping means is in a first position and for tightly securing the end of said slat to the lower surface of each said approach area deck when said clamping means is in a second position.
