Claims
- 1. A computer comprising:
- a chassis having opposing laterally spaced apart front and rear portions, said front portion having an opening formed therethrough;
- a first module structurally interconnecting said chassis front and rear portions and being removable from said chassis in a first direction, said first module having opposing laterally spaced apart front and rear positions, and a first member projecting from said first module rear portion, said first module front portion being releasably secured to said chassis front portion and said first module rear portion being releasably secured to said chassis rear portion, and said first module further having a plate structurally interconnecting said first module front and rear portions;
- a second module slidingly and operatively received in said chassis and being removable therefrom in a direction transverse to said first direction, said second module having a second member projecting therefrom, said first and second members being complementarily shaped, and said second member cooperatively engaging said first member when said second module is operatively received in said chassis and said first module is structurally interconnected with said chassis, such that said first module secures said second module within said chassis in a manner preventing removal of said second module from said chassis in said second direction; and
- a third module slidably received in the opening, said third module having a cavity formed thereon, said cavity being capable of receiving a storage media device therein.
- 2. The computer according to claim 1, wherein said third module further has first and second opposing sidewall portions laterally straddling said cavity, said first sidewall portion having a slotted first aperture extending rearwardly from a front edge thereof, and said second sidewall portion having second and third apertures formed therethrough, said chassis front portion being laterally intermediate said second and third apertures when said third module is slidably displaced in the opening.
- 3. The computer according to claim 1, wherein said first module further has a generally planar option card attached to said plate, said option card having opposite side surfaces and a peripheral edge.
- 4. The computer according to claim 3, wherein said option card further has at least one first card edge connector attached to each of said opposite side surfaces, each of said first card edge connectors being electrically interconnected with said option card peripheral edge, and further comprising a second card edge connector carried on said second module, said option card peripheral edge electrically interconnecting with said second card edge connector when said first module is structurally interconnected with said chassis.
- 5. The computer according to claim 4, further comprising a circuit board carried on said second module, said second card edge connector being mounted on said circuit board and electrically interconnected therewith, said first card edge connectors being electrically interconnected with said circuit board when said first module is structurally interconnected with said chassis.
- 6. The computer according to claim 1, further comprising a cover removably attached to said chassis, said cover overlying said first module, and said cover securing said first module against structural disconnection from said chassis when said first module is structurally interconnected with said chassis and said cover is attached to said chassis.
- 7. A computer comprising:
- a chassis, the chassis having at least two generally orthogonal walls and an opening formed through one of the walls;
- a frame having at least one cavity formed therein, the frame being slidably received within the chassis opening for movement into and out of the chassis perpendicularly to said one of the walls; and
- a storage media device received within the cavity and having attachments mounting the storage media device to the frame, the attachments being disposed within the chassis when the frame is completely received within the chassis opening, and the attachments being externally accessible when the frame is slid outwardly through the opening.
- 8. The computer according to claim 7, wherein the storage media device has a connector disposed on a rear portion thereof, the connector being disposed within the chassis when the frame is received in the chassis, and a lateral separation between the connector and a portion of the chassis being enlarged when the frame is slid outwardly through the opening.
- 9. The computer according to claim 7, wherein the frame has an outer shape cooperatively engaged with the chassis opening, cooperative engagement between the frame and the opening restricting lateral displacement of the frame relative to the chassis.
- 10. The computer according to claim 7, further comprising at least one abutment attached to the other of the chassis walls, the abutment restricting lateral displacement of the frame relative to the chassis.
- 11. A computer comprising:
- a chassis including a wall having an opening formed therethrough, and an obstruction within the chassis spaced apart from the wall;
- a storage media device; and
- a frame slidably received in the chassis opening for movement into and out of the chassis perpendicularly to said wall, the frame including a cavity having the storage media device received therein, and a lateral separation between the frame and the obstruction being increased when the frame is slid outwardly through the opening.
- 12. The computer according to claim 1, wherein the storage media device includes a connector, a lateral separation between the connector and the obstruction being increased when the frame is slid outwardly through the opening.
- 13. The computer according to claim 11, wherein the storage media device is mounted within the cavity with attachments, the attachments being disposed within the chassis when the frame is completely received within the chassis opening, and the attachments being externally accessible when the frame is slid outwardly through the opening.
- 14. The computer according to claim 11, wherein an outer shape of the frame cooperatively engages the chassis opening, thereby restricting lateral displacement of the frame relative to the chassis.
- 15. The computer according to claim 11, further comprising at least one abutment attached to the chassis, the abutment restricting lateral displacement of the frame relative to the chassis.
