Claims
- 1. A modular desk comprising:
a frame having an upper surface and defining a periphery of a worksurface area, said frame further dividing said worksurface area into opposite side regions and a middle region positioned between said side regions, each of said side regions having at least one opening formed within said worksurface area; a worksurface member supported by said frame in said middle region, wherein said worksurface member comprises an upper surface defining a worksurface; a storage accessory removably received in one of said openings, wherein said storage accessory releasably engages said frame; and a cover disposed over said storage accessory, wherein said cover comprises an upper surface defining a worksurface.
- 2. The invention of claim 1 wherein said frame defines at least two openings formed within each of said side regions, and wherein a plurality of storage accessories are removeably received in said openings, wherein each of said storage accessories releasably engages said frame.
- 3. The invention of claim 2 wherein said plurality of storage accessories are different colors.
- 4. The invention of claim 1 wherein said frame comprises a recessed lip formed around at least a portion of a periphery of at least one of said openings, and wherein said at least one storage accessory comprises an edge portion engaging said recessed lip.
- 5. The invention of claim 1 wherein said upper surface of said frame lies substantially flush with said upper surface of said worksurface member.
- 6. The invention of claim 1 wherein said cover has an opening formed therein, wherein said opening in said cover is shaped to permit a user to grasp the cover.
- 7. The invention of claim 1 wherein said storage accessory comprises a tub.
- 8. The invention of claim 1 wherein said storage accessory comprises a basket.
- 9. The invention of claim 1 wherein said storage accessory comprises a flexible membrane stretched across said opening.
- 10. The invention of claim 1 wherein said frame further comprises a plurality of sockets formed in said frame member, and further comprising a second storage accessory comprising at least one stanchion, wherein said at least one stanchion comprises an insert portion shaped to be received in at least one of said plurality of sockets.
- 11. The invention of claim 10 wherein said sockets are formed around at least a portion of the periphery of said worksurface area.
- 12. The invention of claim 10 wherein said sockets are tapered.
- 13. The invention of claim 10 wherein said frame is molded and wherein said sockets are in-molded in said frame.
- 14. The invention of claim 10 wherein said second storage accessory comprises a screen.
- 15. The invention of claim 10 wherein said second storage accessory comprises a post member and a placard connected to said post member.
- 16. The invention of claim 10 wherein said secondary accessory comprises a support stand.
- 17. The invention of claim 16 wherein said support stand comprises a substantially horizontal support surface.
- 18. The invention of claim 1 wherein an uppermost surface of said storage accessory is disposed substantially flush with or below said upper surface of said frame.
- 19. A table comprising:
a worksurface member defining a worksurface area, said worksurface member comprising an exposed, substantially planar, flexible portion defining at least a portion of said worksurface area and a substantially planar non-flexible portion defining at least a portion of said worksurface area.
- 20. The invention of claim 19 wherein said portion of said worksurface area defined by said non-flexible portion is greater than said portion of said worksurface area defined by said flexible portion.
- 21. The invention of claim 20 wherein said non-flexible portion surrounds said flexible portion.
- 22. The invention of claim 20 wherein said non-flexible portion comprises a wood material.
- 23. The invention of claim 19 wherein said flexible portion comprises a stretched membrane having an edge portion supported by said non-flexible portion.
- 24. The invention of claim 23 wherein said flexible membrane is made of Lycra.
- 25. The invention of claim 19 wherein said worksurface member comprises an opening, and wherein said flexible portion covers at least a portion of said opening.
- 26. The invention of claim 25 further comprising a support frame, wherein said flexible portion comprises a stretched membrane attached to said support frame, and wherein said support frame is supported by said non-flexible portion of said worksurface member with said stretched membrane covering at least a portion of said opening.
- 27. The invention of claim 19 wherein said flexible portion and said non-flexible portion each have an upper surface, wherein said upper surfaces of said flexible and non-flexible portions are substantially flush.
- 28. A table comprising:
a frame defining a worksurface area and having an opening formed within said worksurface area; and an exposed, substantially planar, flexible membrane covering said opening and supported by said frame, said membrane having a periphery substantially non-moveable within a plane defined by said membrane, wherein said membrane defines at least a portion of said worksurface area.
- 29. The invention of claim 29 wherein said frame comprises a primary frame and further comprising a secondary support frame, wherein said periphery of said membrane is fixedly connected to said secondary support frame, and wherein said secondary support frame is supported by said primary frame.
- 30. The invention of claim 29 wherein said secondary support frame is releasably connected to said primary frame.
- 31. The invention of claim 28 wherein said membrane comprises a stretched material.
- 32. The invention of claim 28 further comprising a non-flexible worksurface supported by said frame and defining at least a portion of said worksurface area.
- 33. A method of reconfiguring a work space comprising:
providing a worksurface member defining a worksurface area, said worksurface member dividing said worksurface area into opposite side regions and a middle region positioned said side regions, said worksurface member having least one opening formed within each of said side regions, wherein said worksurface member further comprises a worksurface formed in said middle region, said worksurface having an upper surface; providing a first accessory removably received in at least one of said openings and supported by said worksurface member; covering said first accessory with a cover, wherein said cover comprises an upper surface defining a worksurface; removing said cover; removing said first accessory from said opening; and inserting a second accessory in said opening.
- 34. The invention of claim 33 wherein said first accessory is a storage tub.
- 35. The invention of claim 33 wherein said cover comprises an opening formed therethrough, and wherein said removing said cover comprises grasping said cover at said opening in said cover.
- 36. The invention of claim 33 wherein said worksurface member has a plurality of openings, and further comprising inserting a plurality of said first accessories in said plurality of openings.
- 37. The invention of claim 33 wherein said first and second accessories are different colors.
- 38. The invention of claim 33 wherein said worksurface member comprises a recessed lip formed around at least a portion of a periphery of at least one of said openings, and wherein said at least one storage accessory comprises an edge portion engaging said recessed lip.
- 39. A method for storing an article on a worksurface:
providing a worksurface member defining a worksurface area, said worksurface member comprising an exposed, substantially planar, flexible portion defining at least a portion of said worksurface area and a substantially planar non-flexible portion defining at least a portion of said worksurface area; disposing said article on said flexible portion of said worksurface member; and flexing said flexible portion in response to said disposing of said article on said flexible membrane so as to provide a cushion for said article as said article is disposed on said flexible portion.
- 40. The invention of claim 39 wherein said article comprises eye glasses.
- 41. The invention of claim 39 wherein said disposing said article comprises tossing said article onto said flexible portion.
- 42. The invention of claim 39 further comprising removing said flexible portion from said worksurface member.
- 43. A privacy screen for a workspace comprising:
a substantially homogeneous compression molded fiber mat having opposite exposed surfaces, wherein said exposed surfaces of said fiber mat are visible to a user.
- 44. The invention of claim 43 wherein said mat is supported on a worksurface.
- 45. The invention of claim 43 comprising a plurality of said mats, wherein said mats are dyed at least two different colors.
- 46. The invention of claim 43 wherein said mat is tackable.
- 47. The invention of claim 43 wherein said mat comprises polyester fibers, wherein at least a portion of said polyester fibers are visible to the user.
- 48. The invention of claim 43 wherein said mat is molded into a nonplanar shape.
- 49. A privacy screen for a working surface comprising:
a fiber mat comprised of a moldable material, wherein said fiber mat has opposite exposed sides, and wherein at least a portion of said moldable material is visible to a user.
- 50. The invention of claim 49 wherein said fiber mat is made of a substantially homogenous moldable material.
- 51. The invention of claim 49 wherein said moldable material comprises a polyester fiber.
- 52. The invention of claim 49 wherein said moldable material is compression molded.
- 53. The invention of claim 52 wherein said fiber mat has a non-planar shape.
- 54. The invention of claim 49 wherein said moldable material is dyed a color.
- 55. The invention of claim 50 wherein said moldable material is compression molded, and wherein said fiber mat has varying densities.
- 56. A method of organizing a workspace comprising:
providing a worksurface member defining a worksurface area, said worksurface member having a plurality of openings formed therein; providing a plurality of first accessories having at least a portion defined by a first color, wherein said first color provides indicia allowing a user to identify said first accessory; providing a plurality of second accessories having at least a portion defined by a second color, wherein said second color provides indicia allowing a user to identify said second accessory; identifying one of said first and second accessories by said first and second color indicia respectively; selecting one of said first and second accessories based upon said identification thereof; and inserting said selected one of said first and second accessories in one of said openings.
- 57. The invention of claim 56 wherein at least one of said first and second accessories comprises a cover, wherein said cover comprises said at least said portion defined by one of said first and second colors.
- 58. A modular desk comprising:
a frame having an upper surface and defining a periphery of a worksurface area, wherein said frame comprises a plurality of sockets formed in said frame member; a worksurface member supported by said frame, wherein said worksurface member comprises an upper surface defining a worksurface, wherein said worksurface is substantially flush with said upper surface of said frame; and a storage accessory comprising at least one stanchion, wherein said at least one stanchion comprises an insert portion shaped to be received in at least one of said plurality, of sockets.
- 59. The invention of claim 58 wherein said plurality of sockets are spaced around the periphery of the worksurface area.
- 60. The invention of claim 58 wherein said storage accessory comprises a placard supported on said stanchion.
- 61. The invention of claim 58 wherein said storage accessory comprises a support platform supported by said stanchion, wherein said support platform is supported above said worksurface.
- 62. The invention of claim 58 wherein said socket is tapered.
- 63. A desk comprising:
a frame having an upper surface and defining a periphery of a worksurface area, said frame having at least one opening formed within said worksurface area; a worksurface member supported by said frame, said worksurface member having a first and second side, wherein said first side is configured with a first indicia and wherein said second side is configured with a second indicia, wherein said first indicia is different than said second indicia, and wherein said worksurface member is flippable between a first position wherein said first indicia are visible to a user and a second position wherein said second indicia are visible to the user.
- 64. The invention of claim 63 wherein said first and second indicia comprise a first and second color respectively.
- 65. A method for reconfiguring a desk comprising:
providing a frame having an upper surface and defining a periphery of a worksurface area, wherein said frame has at least one opening formed within said worksurface area; and a worksurface member having a first and second side, wherein said first side is configured with a first indicia and wherein said second side is configured with a second indicia, wherein said first indicia is different than said second indicia; supporting said worksurface member in a first position on said frame over least a portion of said opening with said first side of said worksurface member with its first indicia facing upwardly; and flipping said worksurface member to a second position wherein said second side with said second indicia is facing upwardly.
- 66. The invention of claim 65 wherein said first and second indicia comprise a first and second color respectively.
