Claims
- 1. A fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite deck hexagonal component, comprising: a hexagonal cell having a hexagonal space, made of multiple layers of multi-axial fiber reinforcement and a resin matrix, said layers being continuous throughout the entire shape of said hexagonal cell.
- 2. The FRP composite deck hexagonal component according to claim 1, wherein each side of said hexagonal cell is equal in length.
- 3. A fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite double trapezoidal component, comprising:
a top side; a bottom side; a first trapezoid having a first top and a first bottom; and a second trapezoid having a second top and a second bottom; wherein said first trapezoid is inverted such that said first top of said first trapezoid is adjacent to said second top of said second trapezoid, thereby creating a center seam and an extensive bonding surface, and made of multiple layers of multi-axial fiber reinforcement and a resin matrix, said layers being continuous throughout the entire shape of said double trapezoidal component.
- 4. The FRP composite double trapezoidal component according to claim 3, wherein said first trapezoid and said second trapezoid are of equal dimensions.
- 5. The FRP composite double trapezoidal component according to claim 4, wherein said first trapezoid and said second trapezoid are of said equal dimensions that a hexagonal component fits within said extensive bonding surface.
- 6. The FRP composite double trapezoidal component according to claim 3, wherein said first bottom of said first trapezoid is incorporated into said top side and said second bottom of said second trapezoid is incorporated into said bottom side.
- 7. The FRP composite double trapezoidal component according to claim 3, wherein said top side extends beyond said first bottom of said first trapezoid.
- 8. The FRP composite double trapezoidal component according to claim 3, wherein said bottom side extends beyond said second bottom of said second trapezoid.
- 9. A modular fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite deck module, comprising:
one or more composite hexagonal components, each hexagonal component being a hexagonal cell having a hexagonal space, made of multiple layers of multi-axial fiber reinforcement and a resin matrix, said layers being continuous throughout the entire shape of said hexagonal cell; one or more composite double trapezoidal components, each said composite double trapezoidal component comprising a top side; a bottom side; a first trapezoid having a first top and a first bottom; and a second trapezoid having a second top and a second bottom; wherein said first trapezoid is inverted such that said first top of said first trapezoid is adjacent to said second top of said second trapezoid, thereby creating a center seam and an extensive bonding surface, and made of multiple layers of multi-axial fiber reinforcement and a resin matrix, said layers being continuous throughout the entire shape of said composite double trapezoid component; and a means for interlocking one said composite hexagonal component and one said composite double-trapezoidal component, wherein said composite hexagonal component fits within said extensive bonding surface of said composite double trapezoid component.
- 10. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 9, wherein each side of said composite hexagonal component is equal in length.
- 11. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 10, wherein said first trapezoid and said second trapezoid are of equal dimensions.
- 12. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 9, wherein said composite hexagonal components and said composite double-trapezoidal components are manufactured by Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding.
- 13. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 9, wherein said composite hexagonal components and said composite double-trapezoidal components are manufactured by the pultrusion process.
- 14. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 9, wherein said means for interlocking comprises an adhesive bond along said extensive bonding surface.
- 15. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 9, wherein said means for interlocking is a mechanical fastener.
- 16. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 15, wherein said mechanical fastener is selected from a bolt with a nut, a threaded stud, a dowel, and an exterior interlocking and clamping channel.
- 17. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 9, further comprising a filler in said hexagonal space, said first trapezoid, or said second trapezoid.
- 18. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 17, wherein said filler is selected from the group of thermal insulation, noise reduction insulation, and strength enhancement.
- 19. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 9, further comprising an overlay placed over said top side of each said composite double trapezoidal component, thereby resulting in a uniform wearing surface.
- 20. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 19, wherein said overlay is selected from the group of concrete, asphalt, polymer concrete, and bonded grid anti-skid surface.
- 21. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 9, further comprising one or more exterior FRP composite laminates, grids, plates or fabrics bonded continuously to said top side.
- 22. The FRP composite double trapezoidal component according to claim 9, wherein said first bottom of said first trapezoid is incorporated into said top side and said second bottom of said second trapezoid is incorporated into said bottom side.
- 23. The FRP composite double trapezoidal component according to claim 9, wherein said top side extends beyond said first bottom of said first trapezoid.
- 24. The FRP composite double trapezoidal component according to claim 9, wherein a said composite hexagonal component and a said composite double trapezoidal component are integrated into a single modular FRP composite deck module.
- 25. A modular fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite deck module, comprising:
a composite cellular key component defining an enclosed shape, made of multiple layers of multi-axial fiber reinforcement and a resin matrix, said layers being continuous throughout the entire shape of said composite cellular key component; a composite cellular receiving component having a top side, a bottom side, and an extensive bonding surface, made of multiple layers of multi-axial fiber reinforcement and a resin matrix, said layers being continuous throughout the entire shape of said composite cellular receiving component; and a means for interlocking said composite cellular key component with said composite cellular receiving component,
- 26. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 25, wherein said means for interlocking comprises an adhesive bond along said extensive bonding surface.
- 27. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 25, wherein said means for interlocking is a mechanical fastener.
- 28. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 25, further comprising a filler in said composite cellular key component or said composite cellular receiving component.
- 29. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 25, further comprising an overlay placed over said top side of said composite cellular receiving component, thereby resulting in a uniform wearing surface.
- 30. The modular FRP composite deck module according to claim 25, further comprising one or more exterior FRP composite laminates, grids, plates or fabrics bonded continuously to said top side.
