- 9. The housing assembly claimed in claim 8, wherein the actuator operates between said first and second positions and a third position; when in the second position, the actuator bears against both of the opposing sliding bar ends; in the third position, the actuator bears against at least one of the opposing sliding bar ends upon withdrawal of an unassociated drawer; and the actuator returns to the first position upon closure of the unassociated drawer.
- 10. A housing for receiving a pair of opposing sliding bars operationally associated with a drawer within a multi-compartment storage unit, the housing comprising:a plurality of outer walls defining an inner chamber; a first wall opposing a second wall; the housing defining: (i) a linear channel extending through a first portion of the inner chamber between the first wall and the second wall, the channel opening at opposite ends of the housing, the channel defining a first guide for sliding movement of a pair of opposing bars along a first axis, and (ii) a first surface sloped toward a second guide extending across the inner chamber, perpendicular to the channel; the first wall and the second wall defining a mount for supporting a rotatable actuator along a second axis extending between the first wall and the second wall, the second axis being perpendicular to the first axis; and a second mount for securing the housing to the multi-compartment storage unit.
- 11. The housing claimed in claim 10, the channel opening into a second portion of the inner chamber.
- 12. The housing claimed in claim 11, the housing defining a second surface opposing the first surface, the second surface being sloped toward the second guide.
- 13. In the housing claimed in claim 12, the housing comprising spaced apart abutments defined by the second wall, the abutments projecting from two opposing walls of the housing, inwardly toward the chamber.
- 14. The housing claimed in claim 13, the second portion of the inner chamber defining a second linear channel parallel to the first channel.
- 15. The housing claimed in claim 10, wherein the housing is made from a single work piece.
- 16. The housing claimed in claim 15, the housing defining a perimeter about the linear channel, and the second guide defining a recessed track extending along a portion of the perimeter.
- 17. The housing claimed in claim 16, the recessed track extends along a plane defined by a plurality of terminal edges of the outer walls of the housing, the plane being offset from and parallel to the second axis.
- 18. A kit comprising a pair of sliding bar assemblies, an actuator, a housing, and an axial mounting member, for use in a multi-compartment storage unit, the housing comprising:a plurality of outer walls defining an inner chamber; a first wall opposing a second wall; the housing defining: (i) a linear channel extending through a first portion of the inner chamber between the first wall and the second wall, the channel opening at opposite ends of the housing, the channel defining a first guide for sliding movement of the sliding bar assemblies in opposing relation along a first axis, and (ii) a first surface sloped toward a second guide extending across the inner chamber; the first wall and the second wall defining a mount for rotatably supporting the actuator along a second axis extending between the first wall and the second wall, the second axis being perpendicular to the first axis; and at least one fastening element for securing the housing to the multi-compartment storage unit.
- 19. The kit claimed in claim 18, wherein a first sliding bar end of one of the sliding bar assemblies is configured for sliding movement along a first end of the channel, a second sliding bar end of the other of the sliding bar assemblies is configured for sliding movement along a second end of the channel, the sliding bar ends each defining an enclosed space when the sliding bar ends are abutting, the space enclosing a cam defined by the actuator.
