Claims
- 1. An assembly that can access a data storage medium comprising:
a mount including a bore; a spacer attached to the mount; an arm stack connected with the top surface of the spacer such that the arm stack can be disconnected without disassembling the bore, the arm stack including:
a first arm; a first flexible member connected with the first arm; a first head associated with the first flexible member; at least one module connected with the first arm having:
a first module spacer; a first module arm connected with the first module spacer; a first module flexible member connected with the first module arm; a first module head associated with the first module flexible member; a second module spacer connected with the first module arm; a second module arm connected with the second module spacer; a second module flexible member connected with the second module arm; and a second module head associated with the second module flexible member; a second arm removably connected with the bottom surface of the spacer such that the second arm can be disconnected without disassembling the bore; a second flexible member connected with the second arm; and a second head associated with the second flexible member.
- 2. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the arm stack is removably attached to the spacer by screws.
- 3. The assembly of claim 2, wherein the second arm is removably attached to the spacer by screws.
- 4. The assembly of claim 1, including a bearing arrangement within the bore.
- 5. The assembly of claim 4, wherein the bearing arrangement is a cartridge bearing.
- 6. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the first flexible member is connected with the first arm by swaging, the first module flexible member is connected with the first module arm by swaging, the second module flexible member is connected with the second module arm by swaging, and the second arm is connected with the second module arm by swaging.
- 7. The assembly of claim 1, wherein the first flexible member is connected with the first arm by spot welding, the first module flexible member is connected with the first module arm by spot welding, the second module flexible member is connected with the second module arm by spot welding, and the second arm is connected with the second module arm by spot welding.
- 8. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the first arm, the first module arm, the second module arm, and the second arm comprise a metal selected from the group consisting of stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, and magnesium.
- 9. An assembly that can access a data storage medium comprising:
a mount including a bore; a spacer attached to the mount; an arm stack connected with the top surface of the spacer such that the arm stack can be disconnected without disassembling the bore, the arm stack including:
a first arm having a first flexible member connected with the first arm and a first head associated with the first flexible member; a first module spacer connected with the first arm; a first module arm having a first module flexible member connected with the first module arm and a first module head associated with the first module flexible member; a second module spacer connected with the first module arm; and a second module arm having a second module flexible member connected with the second module arm and a second module head associated with the second module flexible member; and a second arm removably connected with the bottom surface of the spacer such that the second arm can be disconnected without disassembling the bore, the second arm having a second flexible member connected with the second arm and a second head associated with the second flexible member.
- 10. The assembly of claim 9, wherein in the arm stack at least one arm is removably attached to the spacer by screws.
- 11. The assembly of claim 10, wherein the second arm is removably attached to the spacer by screws.
- 12. The assembly of claim 9, including a bearing arrangement within the bore.
- 13. The assembly of claim 12, wherein the bearing arrangement is a cartridge bearing.
- 14. The assembly of claim 9, wherein the first flexible member is connected with the first arm by swaging, the first module flexible member is connected with the first module arm by swaging, the second module flexible member is connected with the second module arm by swaging, and the second arm is connected with the second module arm by swaging.
- 15. The assembly of claim 9, wherein the first flexible member is connected with the first arm by spot welding, the first module flexible member is connected with the first module arm by spot welding, the second module flexible member is connected with the second module arm by spot welding, and the second arm is connected with the second module arm by spot welding.
- 16. The assembly of claim 9, wherein the first arm, the first module arm, the second module arm, and the second arm comprise a metal selected from the group consisting of stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, and magnesium.
- 17. An assembly that can access a data storage medium having at least two disks comprising:
a mount adapted to be positioned adjacent to the data storage medium; a bearing arrangement associated with the mount such that the mount can pivot; an arm stack connected with the mount such that the arm stack can be disconnected from the mount without exposing the bearing arrangement, the arm stack adapted to be positioned in close proximity to a surface of the disk in order to access a particular location on the disk and the arm stack including:
at least one module having:
a first module arm; a first module flexible member connected with the first module arm the flexible member adapted to provide a load force directed toward the top surface of a first disk; a first module head associated with the first module flexible member; a first module spacer connected with the first module arm; a second module arm connected with the first module spacer; a second module flexible member connected with the second module arm the flexible member adapted to provide a load force directed toward the bottom surface of a first disk; a second module head associated with the second module flexible member; and a second module spacer connected with the second module arm; a first arm connected with the at least one module; a first flexible member connected with the first arm the flexible member adapted to provide a load force directed toward the surface of a second disk; and a first head associated with the first flexible member; a second arm removably connected with the mount such that the second arm can be disconnected from the mount without exposing the bearing arrangement, the arm stack adapted to be positioned in close proximity to a surface of the disk in order to access a particular location on the disk; a second flexible member connected with the second arm, the second flexible member adapted to provide a load force directed toward the bottom surface of the disk; and a second head connected with the second flexible member, the second head adapted to perform on the first disk one of reading and writing.
- 18. An assembly that can perform an operation with a data storage medium comprising:
an actuator assembly including:
a mounting block having a wedge shape; a bore within the mounting block; a voice coil holder extending from the proximal end of the mounting block; and a spacer extending from the distal end of the mounting block, wherein the spacer includes threaded holes on a top surface and a bottom surface in order to receive screws; an arm stack assembly connected with the top surface of the spacer by one or more screws, the arm stack assembly including:
at least one module having:
a first module arm assembly including:
an arm; a flexible member connected with the arm; and a head associated with the flexible member; a first module spacer connected with the first module arm; a second module arm assembly connected with the first module spacer including:
an arm; a flexible member connected with the arm; and a head associated with the flexible member; and a second module spacer connected with the second module arm; and a first arm assembly connected with the at least one module having:
an arm; a flexible member connected with the arm; and a head associated with the first flexible member; and a second arm assembly connected with the bottom surface of the spacer by one or more screws, the second arm assembly including:
an arm; a flexible member connected with the arm; and a head associated with the flexible member.
- 19. An assembly that can perform an operation with a data storage medium including an actuator assembly having a voice coil holder, a spacer, a bearing arrangement, an arm stack and a bottom arm wherein the improvement comprises:
the arm stack and bottom arm can be disconnected from the actuator assembly without exposing the bearing arrangement.
- 20. An assembly that can access a data storage medium comprising:
a mount including a bore which is adapted to receive a bearing arrangement; an arm stack connected with the mount, wherein the arm stack can be disconnected from the mount without exposing the bearing arrangement, the arm stack including:
at least one module connected having:
a first module arm; a first module flexible member connected with the first module arm; a first module head associated with the first module flexible member; a first module spacer connected with the first module arm; a second module arm connected with the first module spacer; a second module flexible member connected with the second module arm; a second module head associated with the second module flexible member; and a second module spacer connected with the second module arm; a first arm connected with the at least one module; a first flexible member connected with the first arm; and a first head associated with the first flexible member; a second arm connected with the mount; wherein the second arm can be disconnected from the mount without exposing the bearing arrangement; a second flexible member connected with the second arm; and a second head connected with the second flexible member.
- 21. The assembly of claim 20, wherein the arm stack and second arm are removably attached to the mount by screws.
- 22. The assembly of claim 20 wherein the first flexible member is connected with the first arm by one of swaging and spot welding, the first module flexible member is connected with the first module flexible arm by one of swaging and spot welding, the second module flexible member is connected with the second module flexible arm by one of swaging and spot welding, and the first flexible member is connected with the first arm by one of swaging and spot welding.
- 23. An arm stack assembly adapted to be mounted relative to a rotating data storage medium comprising:
a module including:
a first module arm having one or more bores adapted to receive a fastener in order to connect to a mount block; a first module flexible member secured to the first module arm; a first module head associated with the first module flexible member; a first module spacer connected with the first module arm and having one or more bores adapted to receive a fastener in order to connect to a mount block; a second module arm connected with the first module spacer having one or more bores adapted to receive a fastener in order to connect to a mount block; a second module flexible member secured to the second module arm; a second module head associated with the second module flexible member; and a second module spacer connected with the second module arm and having one or more bores adapted to receive a fastener in order to connect to a mount block; an arm including one or more bores adapted to receive a fastener in order to connect the arm to a mount block; a flexible member secured to said arm; and a head associated with the flexible member.
- 24 An apparatus for data storage comprising:
a housing; a spindle motor connected with the housing; a disk rotatably connected with the spindle motor; an actuator assembly pivotally connected with the housing including at least one threaded hole; an arm stack assembly connected with the actuator assembly by at least one screw, the arm stack assembly including:
a module having:
a first module arm assembly including:
an arm; a flexible member connected with the arm; and a head associated with the flexible member; a first module spacer connected with the first module arm assembly; a second module arm assembly connected with the first module spacer including:
an arm; a flexible member connected with the arm; and a head associated with the flexible member; and a second module spacer connected with the second module arm assembly; and a first arm assembly having:
an arm; a flexible member connected with the arm; and a head associated with the flexible member; and a second arm assembly connected with the bottom surface of the spacer by one or more screws such that the second arm can be positioned partially over a bottom surface of the disk, the second arm assembly including:
an arm; a flexible member connected with the arm; and a head associated with the flexible member.
- 25. An assembly that can access a data storage medium comprising:
a mount; an arm stack removably connected with the mount, the arm stack including:
a first arm; and at least one module having a first module arm and a second module arm; and a second arm removably connected with the mount.
- 26. The assembly of claim 25, wherein the arm stack and the second arm are removably connected with the mount by at least one screw.
- 27. An assembly that can access a data storage medium comprising:
a mount; an arm stack removably connected with the mount by at least one screw, the arm stack including:
a first arm having a first flexible member connected with the first arm and a first head associated with the first flexible member; and at least one module including:
a first module arm having a first module flexible member connected with the first module arm and a first module head associated with the first module flexible member; and a second module arm having a second module flexible member connected with the second module arm and a second module head associated with the second module flexible member; and a second arm removably connected with the mount by at least one screw, the second arm having a second flexible member connected with the second arm and a second head associated with the second flexible member.
- 28. An assembly that can access a data storage medium comprising:
a mount; an arm stack removably connected with the mount, the arm stack including:
a first arm; and at least one module arm; and a second arm removably connected with the mount.
- 29. An assembly that can access a data storage medium comprising:
a mount; an arm stack removably connected with the mount by at least one screw, the arm stack including:
a first arm having a first flexible member connected with the first arm and a first head associated with the first flexible member; and at least one module arm having a module flexible member connected with the module arm and a module head associated with the module flexible member; and a second arm removably connected with the mount by at least one screw, the second arm having a second flexible member connected with the second arm and a second head associated with the second flexible member.
