The following background information may present examples of specific aspects of the prior art (e.g., without limitation, approaches, facts, or common wisdom) that, while expected to be helpful to further educate the reader as to additional aspects of the prior art, is not to be construed as limiting the present invention, or any embodiments thereof, to anything stated or implied therein or inferred thereupon.
The sofa and coffee table are the most important furniture in the living room and the most frequently used furniture in the living room. However, for the room with little space, sofas and coffee tables will instead become cumbersome and limited in function. Many smaller living rooms have no room for a coffee table, ottoman, or single-seater sofa after putting down an ordinary two-seater sofa. Further, for the current sofa bed, there is not a very convenient way to unfold especially for small spaces or caravans.
In view of the foregoing, there is a need for a living room furniture solution that can be flexibly changed to provide the appropriate function for a particular living space.
Embodiments of the present invention aim to solve the aforementioned problems in conventional living room furniture. Aspects of the present invention provide a sofa that can be flexibly changed in small spaces or caravans to achieve the corresponding function. By using the connecting parts, one can achieve two single-seater sofas and a coffee table, a double sofa and a coffee table, a double sofa and an ottoman, or other functions.
Aspects of the present invention can permit opening of the coffee table and two-seater sofa to permit their combination to achieve the function of the sofa bed, which typically can be slightly larger than the twin size. For small spaces, such an interchangeability s also very useful and convenient. Further, aspects of the present invention provide the sofa and coffee table with a storage space in the bottom, providing additional functionality, especially for small spaces or caravans, for example.
Embodiments of the present invention provide a modular furniture system comprising at least one sofa module, the at least one sofa module comprising a back member pivotably attached to a base portion; a base cushion disposed on the base portion; a back cushion disposed on the back member; arm members movable from each side of the base cushion between a collapsed configuration, with the arm members generally flush with the base cushion, and an expanded configuration, with the arm members above a top surface of the base cushion; legs pivotably attached to the back member; and a slide mechanism permitting the back cushion to slide linearly along the back member, wherein the back member is movable between an upright position, where the sofa module is in a chair configuration, and a lowered position, where the back member extends generally parallel with the top surface of the base cushion, the legs contact a floor surface, and the back cushion is generally coplanar with the base cushion.
Embodiments of the present invention provide a modular furniture system comprising at least one coffee table module, the coffee table module comprising a top member having a top surface and a first cushion positioned under the top surface; a base portion having a second cushion positioned atop thereof; and a leg system extendable from a channel formed in the base portion, the leg system disposed completely within the base portion when the coffee table module is in a coffee table configuration, wherein when the leg system is extended outward from the channel, the top member can be turned upside down and placed with the top surface positioned on top of the leg system to form an ottoman configuration; and the first cushion having a top surface that is generally coplanar with a top surface of the second cushion when the coffee table module is in the ottoman configuration.
Embodiments of the present invention provide a modular furniture system comprising at least one sofa module and at least one coffee table module. The at least one sofa module includes a back member pivotably attached to a sofa base portion; a base cushion disposed on the sofa base portion; a back cushion disposed on the back member; arm members movable from each side of the base cushion between a collapsed configuration, with the arm members generally flush with the base cushion, and an expanded configuration, with the arm members above a top surface of the base cushion; legs pivotably attached to the back member; and a slide mechanism permitting the back cushion to slide linearly along the back member, wherein the back member is movable between an upright position, where the sofa module is in a chair configuration, and a lowered position, where the back member extends generally parallel with the top surface of the base cushion, the legs contact a floor surface, and the back cushion is generally coplanar with the base cushion. The coffee table module includes and a top member having a top surface and a first cushion positioned under the top surface; a coffee table base portion having a second cushion positioned atop thereof; and a leg system extendable from a channel formed in the coffee table base portion, the leg system disposed completely within the coffee table base portion when the coffee table module is in a coffee table configuration, wherein when the leg system is extended outward from the channel, the top member can be turned upside down and placed with the top surface positioned on top of the leg system to form an ottoman configuration; and the first cushion having a top surface that is generally coplanar with a top surface of the second cushion when the coffee table module is in the ottoman configuration.
