Claims
- 1. An apparatus for forming a reversible and environmentally protected electric contact between electrical contacts comprising:
- a first elastomeric container containing a first electrical contact and a separate second container containing a second electrical contact directly mateable to the first electrical contact in the first elastomeric container wherein said first elastomeric container is filled with a sealing material and collapsible and radially expandable to maintain the sealing material under compression upon engagement of said first and second electrical contacts, and upon disengagement the sealing material moves back to its prior shape.
- 2. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the second container is filled with a sealing material.
- 3. The apparatus according to claim 2 wherein the second container is an elastomeric container.
- 4. The apparatus according to claim 3 wherein the sealing material is a grease.
- 5. The apparatus according to claim 3 wherein the sealing material is a gel.
- 6. The apparatus according to claim 5 wherein the gel has a Voland hardness of from about 525 g to about 5 g with an ultimate elongation of at least 75%.
- 7. The apparatus according to claim 6 wherein the gel is selected from the group consisting of poly organo siloxanes, polyurethanes, polyuresas, styrene-butachiene/styrene-isoprene block copolymers, and combinations and mixtures thereof.
- 8. The apparatus according to claim 7 wherein the first and second containers are each closed ended with a separating slit member which separates to permit engagement of the first and second electrical contacts when urged together.
- 9. An apparatus for forming a reversible and environmentally protected electric contact between electrical contacts comprising:
- a first elastomeric container containing a first electrical contact and a second elastomeric container containing a second electrical contact mateable to the first electrical contact in the first elastomeric container, wherein both said elastomeric containers are filled with a sealing material and collapsible and radially expandable upon engagement of said first and second electrical contacts, and
- said first and second containers are each closed ended with a separating slit member which separates to permit engagement of the first and second electrical contacts when urged together.
