Claims
- 1. A method for inducing or stimulating the growth of body or head or cranial hair or retarding or limiting the loss of such hair on a mammalian organism in need of such treatment, comprising administering to such organism a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising at least one peptide containing a Lysine-Proline-Valine tripeptide,
- with the exception of any peptide containing the Lysine-Proline-Valine sequence immediately preceded by a histidine residue and with the further exception of any peptide containing the Lysine-Proline-Valine sequence which is complexed to a metal.
- 2. The method as defined by claim 1, said at least one peptide being the Lysine-Proline-Valine tripeptide.
- 3. The method as defined by claim 1, said at least one peptide comprising a peptide of natural or synthetic origin.
- 4. The method as defined by claim 1, the amino acid residues of the Lysine-Proline-Valine tripeptide comprising the tripeptide being in the form of dextrorotatory or laevorotatory optical isomers.
- 5. The method as defined by claim 1, said at least one peptide comprising protective groups therefor.
- 6. The method as defined by claim 5, said protective groups being provided by acylation or acetylation of the amino-terminal end or by amidation of the carboxy-terminal end, or by both.
- 7. The method as defined by claim 1, comprising treating an inflammatory stage of alopecia.
- 8. The method as defined by claim 1, said Lysine-Proline-Valine tripeptide being administered at a concentration of from 10.sup.-12 M to 10.sup.-3 M.
- 9. The method as defined by claim 1, said Lysine-Proline-Valine tripeptide being administered at a concentration of from 10.sup.-12 M to 1 M.
- 10. The method as defined by claim 1, comprising topically applying said at least one peptide to human hair and/or a human scalp.
- 11. The method as defined by claim 10, comprising maintaining said at least one peptide in contact with said hair/scalp for such period of time as is required to elicit the desired therapeutic response, and optionally rinsing same therefrom.
