Claims
- 1. A composition resistant to moisture permeation comprising:
- a blend having,
- (a) about 100 parts by weight of a mercaptan compound having the following formula: ##STR8## where R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms and where n is 1 or 2;
- (b) from about 40 to about 250 parts by weight of an epoxy resin; and
- (c) from about 0.5 parts by weight to about 4.0 parts by weight of a silane selected from the group consisting of:
- N-aminoalkyl-aminoalkyl-trialkoxysilanes of the formula: ##STR9## wherein R.sub.1 is an alkylene having 1-6 carbon atoms and R.sub.2 is an alkyl, having 1-6 carbon atoms; and aminoalkyl-trialkoxysilanes of the formula: ##STR10## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are as defined above, and combinations thereof.
- 2. A composition according to claim 1 wherein said epoxy resin comprises from about 100 parts by weight to about 200 parts by weight.
- 3. A composition resistant to moisture permeation, comprising;
- a blend having a specific permeability of less than 1.00 mg:mm/24 hr cm.sup.2 ;
- said blend comprising from about 100 parts by weight of a thio terminated polyether, from about 40 to about 250 parts by weight of an epoxy resin; and from about 0.5 parts by weight to about 4.0 parts by weight of a silane terminated compound.
- 4. A composition according to claim 2, wherein said silane is selected from the group consisting of gamma aminopropyl triethoxy silane, normal beta aminoethyl gamma aminopropyl trimethoxy silane, and combinations thereof.
- 5. A composition according to claim 4, wherein the amount of said silane is about 2.5 parts by weight.
- 6. A composition according to claim 3, wherein said epoxy resin ranges from about 100 to about 200 parts by weight.
- 7. A composition according to claim 6, wherein said mercaptan compound has the formula ##STR11## where R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms and where n is 1 or 2; and
- wherein said silane is selected from the group consisting of: N-aminoalkyl-aminoalkyl-trialkoxysilanes of the formula: ##STR12## wherein R.sub.1 is an alkylene having 1-6 carbon atoms and R.sub.2 is an alkyl having 1-6 carbon atoms, and aminoalkyl-trialkoxysilanes of the formula: ##STR13## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are as defined above, and combinations thereof.
- 8. A composition according to claim 7, wherein said silane is selected from the group consisting of gamma aminopropyl triethoxy silane, normal beta aminoethyl gamma aminopropyl trimethoxy silane, and combinations thereof.
