Claims
- 1. A composition of matter in particulate, crystalline form, free-flowing during storage and prolonged exposure to ordinary temperature and humidity conditions, having an increased rate of solution comprising a hydrate-forming phosphate selected from the group consisting of sodium pyrophosphate and trisodium phosphate and added water from about 0.1% by weight up to full hydration in the form of water of hydration, said water containing in solution sufficient surfactant to provide the composition with from about 0.2 ppm to about 125 ppm surfactant.
- 2. A composition of claim 1 wherein the hydrate forming phosphate is sodium acid pyrophosphate.
- 3. A composition of claim 2 containing from about 0.5 percent and 2 percent, by weight, water and the surfactant is present in an amount between about 1 ppm and about 10 ppm.
- 4. A composition of claim 3 containing from about 0.5 percent to about 2 percent, by weight, water and the surfactant is present in an amount between about 1 ppm and about 10 ppm.
- 5. A composition of claim 1 wherein the hydrate forming phosphate is trisodium phosphate.
- 6. A composition of claim 5 containing from about 0.5 percent to about 2 percent, by weight, water and the surfactant is present in an amount between about 1 ppm and about 10 ppm.
- 7. A composition as set forth in claim 1 containing between about 0.5 percent by weight and about 2 percent by weight water and the surfactant is present in an amount between 1 ppm and about 10 ppm.
- 8. A composition of claim 5 wherein the phosphate is tetrasodium pyrophosphate.
- 9. A composition as set forth in claim 1 further comprising at most about 0.1% by weight free water.
- 10. A composition as set forth in claim 1 in which at least 60% of the particles are smaller than 270 mesh, and essentially all of the particles are smaller than 60 mesh.
- 11. A composition as set forth in claim 1 in which at least 40% of the particles are larger than 60 mesh, and essentially all of the particles are larger than 100 mesh.
- 12. A composition of matter in particulate, crystalline form, comprising a hydrate forming phosphate, selected from the group consisting of sodium, pyrophosphate and trisodium phosphate, between about 0.1% by weight and about 4% by weight water in the form of water of hydration and between about 0.2 ppm and about 20 ppm of a surfactant.
- 13. A composition as set forth in claim 1 wherein the phosphate is fully hydrated.
- 14. A composition as set forth in claim 12 wherein the phosphate is sodium pyrophosphate and the water content is in the range of from about 12% to about 23%.
- 15. A composition as set forth in claim 1 wherein the surfactant is present in the range of from about 100 ppm to about 125 ppm.
- 16. A granular composition of claim 1 comprising from about 21% to about 23% added water, said water containing in solution sufficient surfactant to provide the composition from about 100 ppm to about 125 ppm surfactant.
- 17. A method for the preparation of a particulate, crystalline, composition comprising contacting a crystalline phosphate selected from the group consisting of sodium pyrophosphate and trisodium phosphate containing less than about 0.1% water with an aqueous solution of surfactant to produce a particulate, crystalline composition comprising between about 0.1% by weight an up to full hydration in the form of water of hydration and between about 0.2 ppm and about 125 ppm of the surfactant.
- 18. A method as set forth in claim 17 wherein said solution comprises between about 200 and about 500 ppm of the surfactant.
- 19. A method for the preparation of a particulate, crystalline, sodium acid pyrophosphate composition comprising the steps of:
- calcining a sodium phosphate to produce an unmilled calcined product; and
- contacting the unmilled calcined product with an aqueous solution of surfactant to produce particulate, crystalline, sodium pyrophosphate composition comprising water in the amount of from between about 0.1% by weight and full hydration in the form of water of hydration and between about 0.2 ppm and about 125 ppm of the surfactant.
- 20. A method as set forth in claim 19 wherein said calcining is effected at a temperature of between about 250.degree. C and about 375.degree. C.
- 21. A method as set forth in claim 19 wherein said solution comprises between about 200 and about 500 ppm of the surfactant.
- 22. A method for the preparation of a particulate, crystalline, trisodium phosphate composition comprising the steps of:
- drying ortho phosphate to produce an unmilled dried trisodium phosphate product;
- milling the unmilled dried product to form a milled calcined product; and
- contacting the milled calcined product with an aqueous solution of surfactant to produce a particulate, crystalline, trisodium phosphate composition comprising water in the amount of from about 0.1% by weight up to full hydration in the form of water of hydration and between about 0.2 ppm and about 125 ppm of the surfactant.
- 23. A method of claim 19 wherein the sodium pyrophosphate is sodium acid pyrophosphate.
- 24. A method of claim 19 wherein the sodium pyrophosphate is tetrasodium pyrophosphate.

This application is a continuation-in-part of application Ser. No. 193,024 filed May 12, 1988, now U.S. Pat. No. 4,803,058 which was a division of application Ser. No. 030,091 filed Mar. 31, 1987, now U.S. Pat. No. 4,770,865 which is a continuation-in-part of application Ser. No. 901,920 filed Aug. 19, 1986, now abandoned.
