The mold interlock assembly of claim 1 wherein the receiver has a recess in which the head of the male interlock is received, the insert receiver comprising a channel in the head with the head having a lip extending outwardly along the channel, the insert received in the channel and in contact with the lip, and the insert comprising a rectangular block having a plurality of material layers.
- 9. The mold interlock assembly of claim 1 wherein the male interlock comprises a base that has a head extending outwardly therefrom with the head having a pair of sidewalls spaced apart a first distance, a tapered section disposed between the sidewalls and the base that tapers outwardly relative to the sidewalls and spaced apart a second distance that is greater than the first distance, and the receiver comprises a pair of sidewalls spaced apart so as to define a pocket therebetween having a mouth with each sidewall having an outwardly tapering section adjacent the mouth that each abuts a corresponding one of the tapered sections of the head when the head is received in the pocket.
- 10. An interlock assembly for a mold that has a plurality of mold halves comprising:
a receiver removably attached to one of the mold halves; a male interlock removably attached to another one of the mold halves and which has a head that registers with the receiver when the one of the mold halves and the another one of the mold halves are brought together in close proximity to each other, and the head of the male interlock having an outwardly extending lip; and a wear resistant insert engaged by the lip to help retain the wear resistant insert on the head of the male interlock by the lip.
- 11. The mold interlock assembly of claim 10 wherein the head comprises a second lip with the wear resistant insert disposed between the lips with the lips and wear resistant insert having an interference fit therebetween.
- 12. The mold interlock assembly of claim 10 wherein the head has a pair of the lips defining an insert-receiving channel therebetween, and the wear resistant insert comprises a polygonal pad having a pair of sides with one of the sides disposed alongside one of the lips and the other one of the sides disposed alongside the other one of the lips with the pair of sides and lips tapering slightly toward each other so as to produce an interference fit between the pad and the lips along the lengthwise direction of the pad when the pad is inserted into the channel in the head and between the lips.
- 13. The mold interlock assembly of claim 10 wherein the wear resistant insert further comprises a plurality of pairs of plugs of a solid lubricant disposed therein.
- 14. The mold interlock assembly of claim 10 the wear resistant insert further comprises a polygonal laminate pad that is fixed to the head.
- 15. An interlock assembly for a mold that has a plurality of mold halves comprising:
a receiver carried by one of the mold halves; a male interlock carried by another one of the mold halves and which has a head with a pair of sides that each has a plurality of spaced apart arcuate channels therein; and a rotatable insert received in each one of the plurality of arcuate channels in the head that each have a portion that clears the head for contacting the receiver when the head is mating with the receiver as one of the mold halves moves into close proximity to another one of the mold halves.
