Claims
- 1. A method for the treatment of neurogenic bladder disorders comprising:
- a) administering oxybutinin at a therapeutically effective rate to an area of skin;
- b) simultaneously administering a permeation enhancer to the area of skin which is sufficient to substantially increase the permeability of the area to the drug;
- wherein oxybutynin is delivered at a therapeutically effective rate of at least about 40-200 .mu.g/hr for an administration period of at least about 24 hours in order to achieve levels of oxybutynin in plasma of about 2-4 ng/mL within about 6-10 hours after initiation of the administration period.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 wherein 1-20 mg of oxybutynin are delivered over a period of 24 hours.
- 3. A method according to claim 1 wherein oxybutinin is delivered at a skin permeation rate of about 5-15 .mu.g/cm.sup.2 hr.
- 4. A method according to claim 1 wherein the therapeutically effective rate is about 80-160 .mu.g/hr.
- 5. A method according to claim 1 wherein therapeutic blood levels are maintained as desired by repeating steps a) and b) above.
- 6. A method according to claim 1 wherein levels of oxybutynin in plasma of at least 0.5 ng/mL are maintained throughout the remainder of the administration period.
- 7. A method according to claim 1 wherein levels of oxybutynin in plasma of at least 2 ng/mL are maintained throughout the remainder of the administration period.
