Claims
- 1. A cyclic amine polymer having a monomeric repeating unit comprising one or more structures of the formula I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX or X: wherein X, X′ and X″ are hydrogen; R1 is hydrogen or C1 to C4 alkyl; R2 is C1-C4 alkyl, benzyl or C1-C4 alkyl-substituted benzyl; and R3 and R4 are independently C1-C4 alkyl, phenyl, C1-C4 alkyl-substituted phenyl, benzyl or C1-C4 alkyl-substituted benzyl, or R3 and R4 together form a pentamethylene or tetramethylene moiety.
- 2. The polymer of claim 1, wherein the polymer is a copolymer.
- 3. The polymer of claim 1, wherein the polymer is a homopolymer.
- 4. The polymer of claim 1, wherein the monomeric repeating unit consists of one or more structures of the formula I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX or X.
- 5. The polymer of claim 1, further comprising a monomeric repeating unit M different than the monomeric structures of the formula I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX and X, wherein the monomer M is copolymerizable with the monomeric structure of the formula I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX or X without hindering the ability of the monomeric structure of the formula I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX or X of the resultant cyclic amine copolymer to be halogenated.
- 6. The cyclic amine copolymer of claim 5, wherein the monomeric repeating unit M is one or more of acrylonitrile, styrene, acrylamide, methacrylamide, methyl methacrylate, ethylene, propylene, butylenes, or butadiene.
- 7. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the polymer is poly-5-methyl-5-(4′-vinylphenyl)hydantoin.
- 8. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the polymer is poly-5-methyl-5-(4′-isopropenylphenyl)hydantoin.
- 9. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the polymer is poly-6-methyl-6-(4′-vinylphenyl)-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-dione.
- 10. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the polymer is poly-6-methyl-6-(4′-isopropenylphenyl)-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-dione.
- 11. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the polymer is poly-2,5,5-trimethyl-2-vinyl-1,3-imidazolidin-4-one.
- 12. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the polymer is poly-2,2,5-trimethyl-5-vinyl-1,3-imidazolidin-4-one.
- 13. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the polymer is poly-5-methyl-5-vinylhydantoin.
- 14. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the polymer is poly-6-methyl-6-vinyl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-dione.
- 15. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the polymer is poly-(4-methylene-6-yl)-4,6-dimethyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro(1H)pyrimidin-2-one.
- 16. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the polymer is poly-4-methyl-4-vinyl-2-oxazolidinone.
- 17. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the polymer is poly-4-methyl-4-(4′-vinylphenyl)-2-oxazolidinone.
- 18. A cyclic amine copolymer having a monomeric repeating unit comprising one or more structures of the formula I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX or X: wherein X, X′ and X″ are independently chlorine, bromine or hydrogen, provided that at least one of X, X′ and X″ is chlorine or bromine; R1 is hydrogen or C1 to C4 alkyl; R2 is C1-C4 alkyl, benzyl or C1-C4 alkyl-substituted benzyl; and R3 and R4 are independently C1-C4 alkyl, phenyl, C1-C4 alkyl-substituted phenyl, benzyl or C1-C4 alkyl-substituted benzyl, or R3 and R4 together form a pentamethylene or tetramethylene moiety, and further comprising a monomeric repeating unit M different than the monomeric structures of the formula I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX and X, wherein the monomer M is copolymerizable with the monomeric structure of the formula I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX or X without hindering the ability of the monomeric structure of the formula I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX or X of the cyclic amine copolymer to be halogenated.
- 19. The cyclic amine copolymer of claim 18, wherein the monomeric repeating unit M is one or more of acrylonitrile, styrene, acrylamide, methacrylamide, methyl methacrylate, ethylene, propylene, butylenes, or butadiene.
