Claims
- 1. A bisphenol of the formula:

The bisphenol of claim 1, wherein the spacer group is selected from the group consisting of substituted alkyl radicals, unsubstituted alkyl radicals, substituted alkenes, unsubstituted alkenes, substituted benzyl radicals, unsubstituted benzyl radicals, carbonyl radicals, sulfides, sulfones, sulfoxides, and mixtures and combinations thereof.
- 3. The bisphenol of claim 1, wherein at least one of the aryl units is substituted.
- 4. The bisphenol of claim 1, wherein the hydroxyl end groups are at the para position of the terminal aryl unit.
- 5. The bisphenol of claim 1, wherein the spacer group is selected from the group consisting of CH2, C(CF3)2, C═CCl2, O—CH2—O, C(CH3)2.
- 6. A polymer comprising at least one monomer unit of the bisphenol of claim 1.
- 7. A resin comprising at least one derivative of the bisphenol of claim 1.
- 8. A derivative of the bisphenol of claim 1.
- 9. A bisphenol of the formula:

The bisphenol of claim 9, wherein the spacer group is selected from the group consisting of substituted alkyl radicals, unsubstituted alkyl radicals, substituted alkenes, unsubstituted alkenes, substituted benzyl radicals, unsubstituted benzyl radicals, carbonyl radicals, sulfides, sulfones, sulfoxides, and mixtures and combinations thereof.
- 11. The bisphenol of claim 9, wherein at least one of the aryl units is substituted.
- 12. The bisphenol of claim 9, wherein the hydroxyl end groups are at the para position of the terminal aryl unit.
- 13. The bisphenol of claim 9, wherein the spacer group is selected from the group consisting of CH2, C(CF3)2, C═CCl2, O—CH2—O.
- 14. A polymer comprising at least one monomer unit of the bisphenol of claim 9.
- 15. A resin comprising at least one derivative of the bisphenol of claim 9.
- 16. A derivative of the bisphenol of claim 9.
- 17. A composition comprising the formula:
- 18. The composition of claim 17 wherein the end group is selected from the group consisting of methyl acrylates, glycidyl ethers and cyanates.
- 19. The composition of claim 17, wherein the spacer group is selected from the group consisting of substituted alkyl radicals, unsubstituted alkyl radicals, substituted alkenes, unsubstituted alkenes, substituted benzyl radicals, unsubstituted benzyl radicals, carbonyl radicals, sulfides, sulfones, sulfoxides, and mixtures and combinations thereof.

The composition of claim 17, wherein the end group is selected from the group consisting of methyl acrylates, gylcidyl ethers and cyanates and wherein the spacer group is selected from the group consisting of substituted alkyl radicals, unsubstituted alkyl radicals, substituted alkenes, unsubstituted alkenes, substituted benzyl radicals, unsubstituted benzyl radicals, carbonyl radicals, sulfides, sulfones, sulfoxides, and mixtures and combinations thereof.
- 21. The composition of claim 17, wherein at least one of the aryl units is substituted.
- 22. The composition of claim 17, wherein the end groups are at the para position of the terminal aryl unit.
- 23. A polymer comprising at least one monomer unit of the composition of claim 17.
- 24. A resin comprising at least one derivative of the composition of claim 17.
- 25. A composition comprising the formula:
- 26. The composition of claim 25 wherein the end group is selected from the group consisting of methyl acrylates, glycidyl ethers and cyanates.
- 27. The composition of claim 25, wherein the spacer group is selected from the group consisting of substituted alkyl radicals, unsubstituted alkyl radicals, substituted alkenes, unsubstituted alkenes, substituted benzyl radicals, unsubstituted benzyl radicals, carbonyl radicals, sulfides, sulfones, sulfoxides, and mixtures and combinations thereof.

The composition of claim 25, wherein the end group is selected from the group consisting of methyl acrylates, gylcidyl ethers and cyanates and wherein the spacer group is selected from the group consisting of substituted alkyl radicals, unsubstituted alkyl radicals, substituted alkenes, unsubstituted alkenes, substituted benzyl radicals, unsubstituted benzyl radicals, carbonyl radicals, sulfides, sulfones, sulfoxides, and mixtures and combinations thereof.
- 29. The composition of claim 25, wherein at least one of the aryl units is substituted.
- 30. The composition of claim 25, wherein the end groups are at the para position of the terminal aryl unit.
- 31. A polymer comprising at least one monomer unit of the composition of claim 25.
- 32. A resin comprising at least one derivative of the composition of claim 25.
- 33. A bisphenol of the formula:

The bisphenol of claim 33, wherein the spacer group is selected from the group consisting of substituted alkyl radicals, unsubstituted alkyl radicals, substituted alkenes, unsubstituted alkenes, substituted benzyl radicals, unsubstituted benzyl radicals, carbonyl radicals, sulfides, sulfones, sulfoxides, and mixtures and combinations thereof.
- 35. The bisphenol of claim 33, wherein at least one of the aryl units is substituted.
- 36. The bisphenol of claim 33, wherein the spacer group is selected from the group consisting of CH2, C(CF3)2, C═CCl2, O═CH2—O, C(CH3)2.
- 37. A polymer comprising at least one monomer unit of the bisphenol of claim 33.
- 38. A resin comprising at least one derivative of the bisphenol of claim 33.
- 39. A derivative of the bisphenol of claim 1.
