Claims
- 1. A storage system comprising
- a plurality of movable storage units,
- reversible motor means mounted to said movable units, respectively, for driving each unit selectively in one direction or the opposite direction to open an aisle between a pair of said units,
- motor control circuit means for each unit connected to said motor means on the unit,
- controller means including processor means on the units, respectively, and conductors interconnecting said controller means,
- start switch means on each unit for selecting opening of an adjacent aisle, said switch means connected to said interconnected controller means on the same unit and manually operable to activate one of said processor means in said controller means to produce command signals to which the processor means in at least one other controller means responds by providing command signals to said motor control circuit means for causing said circuit means to turn on one or more motor means for driving one or more units in directions that result in opening the selected aisle,
- said motor control means including a left move relay means to which the move left command signal is coupled and a right move relay means to which the move right command signal is coupled,
- a dc power source having positive and negative terminals for being coupled to said motor and said motor being a dc motor having an armature and brushes for supplying current to said armature for causing the motor to rotate in a direction depending on the direction of current flowing through said armature,
- a pair of switch contacts which close in response to energization of said left move relay means to connect one of said brushes to the positive dc source terminal and the other brush to the negative terminal to cause said armature to rotate in one direction and a pair of contacts which close in response to energization of said right move relay means to connect said one brush to said negative terminal and said other brush to said positive terminal to cause said armature to rotate oppositely of said one direction,
- a dynamic braking circuit including a series circuit connected across said brushes and including one normally closed switch contact connected to one brush and another normally closed switch contact connected to the other brush and first resistor means connected between said contacts, said one switch contact opening to avoid short circuiting said armature when said left move relay means is energized and closing when said relay is deenergized, said other switch contact opening to avoid short circuiting said armature when said right move relay means is energized and closing when said relay means is deenergized such that said first resistor becomes connected across said armature immediately after either of said relay means are deenergized to cause dynamic braking of said motor,
- a series circuit including additional resistor means and a manually operable switch connected across said first resistor means, closing of said switch causing said resistors to be in parallel across said armature to provide more dynamic braking for said motor.
- 2. The storage system according to claim 1 wherein electric power source comprises an acceleration and deceleration (A & D) controller for producing an increasing output voltage to ramp said motor up to a maximum speed after one or the other of said left move relay and right move relay is energized,
- phase control relay means energized by said processor means concurrently with energizing of either of said left move or right move relay means,
- external motor speed selection circuit means including a normally open and a normally closed contact designated for identification as contacts PA1 and PA2, respectively, switched to closed and open contacts, respectively, when said phase control relay is energized,
- said A & D controller including in its circuitry first adjustable resistance for setting the maximum speed of said motor and a second adjustable resistance for setting the minimum speed of said motor, said adjustable resistances arranged to be connected to a common junction in said A & D controller,
- terminals designated as P1, P2 and P3 for identification on said A & D controller connected to said first maximum speed adjustable resistance (P3), said second maximum speed adjustable resistance (P1) and said common junction (P2), respectively,
- said external motor speed selection circuitry comprised of a first resistor and said normally closed PA1 contact connected in series between P1 and P2, said normally open contact PA2 connected between P2 and the wiper of a potentiometer, a second resistor and the resistor part of said potentiometer connected in series across P1 and P3,
- energization of said phase control relay means causing said normally closed contact PA1 to open and said normally open contact PA2 to close to place closed contact PA2 and part of said potentiometer resistance in series with maximum speed adjustable resistance in said A & D controller so said motor runs at maximum speed,
- deenergization of said phase control relay means in response to a command signal from said processor to discontinue the motor means driving a storage unit causing opening of said normally open contact and closing of said normally open contact to place said potentiometer resistance and said second resistor in series with said second minimum speed adjustable resistance in said A & D controller to cause said motor means to decelerate to minimum speed and continue driving a unit until whichever of said left move or right move relays has been energized is deenergized in which cause said dynamic braking is activated.
