Claims
- 1. An apparatus for regenerating chloride containing catalyst particles, said apparatus comprising:
- a) a vertical regeneration vessel having an outer vessel wall;
- b) a combustion section defined by an upper portion of said regeneration vessel;
- c) means for adding deactivated catalyst particles to said combustion section and contacting deactivated catalyst particles with combustion gas in said combustion section to produce coke depleted catalyst particles and spent regeneration gas;
- d) an upper chamber defined by an upper portion of said regeneration vessel for collecting spent regeneration gas and means for withdrawing spent regeneration gas from said chamber;
- e) a chlorination section in said regeneration vessel containing a chlorination chamber, defined in part by an inner chlorination baffle, and means for receiving coke depleted catalyst particles from said combustion section in said chlorination chamber to produce chlorided catalyst particles and communicating gas from said chlorination section to said upper chamber;
- f) an outer chlorination baffle extending within said regeneration vessel parallel to and partially overlapping said inner chlorination baffle to define an outer mixing chamber between said vessel wall and said outer chlorination baffle and a inner mixing chamber located between said outer chlorination baffle and said inner chlorination baffle, said chlorination section having means for communicating a chlorination gas from said outer mixing chamber through said inner mixing chamber to said chlorination chamber;
- g) a drying section defined by said regeneration vessel and located below said chlorination chamber for contacting chlorided catalyst particles with a drying gas;
- h) means for passing said drying gas and introducing a chlorine compound containing stream into said outer mixing chamber to produce said chlorination gas;
- i) means for passing chlorided catalyst particles from said chlorination chamber into said drying section to produce dried catalyst particles; and,
- j) means for withdrawing dried catalyst particles from said regeneration vessel.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said regeneration vessel is cylindrical.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said inner and outer chlorination baffles are extended in a vertical direction and arranged such that chlorination gas passes upwardly through said outer mixing chamber and downwardly through said inner mixing chamber.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein a fiat partition at least partially separates said chlorination section and said drying section and said partition defines openings to communicate drying gas from said drying section to said chlorination section.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein a distributor directs said chlorine compound containing stream into said mixing chamber in a direction perpendicular to said partition.
- 6. An apparatus for regenerating chloride containing catalyst particles comprising
- a) a regeneration vessel having a vertically extended axis and a cylindrical vessel wall;
- b) a pair of cylindrical screens located in an upper portion of said regeneration vessel defining an annular combustion chamber between said screens for coke combustion, an inlet chamber to the outside of both screens and a central gas collection chamber to the inside of the both screens;
- c) means for adding catalyst particles to an upper portion of said combustion chamber and withdrawing gas from said central gas collection chamber;
- d) a downwardly extending chlorination baffle located below said screens and having a cylindrical form defining a central chlorination chamber having direct communication with said central gas collection chamber;
- e) an upwardly extending chlorination baffle surrounding a lower portion of said downwardly extending chlorination baffle and defining an inner annular mixing chamber between said upwardly and downwardly extending chlorination baffles, said inner annular chamber having direct communication with said central chlorination chamber, and defining an outer annular mixing chamber, having direct communication with said inner annular mixing chamber, between said upwardly extending chlorination baffle and the wall of said regeneration vessel;
- f) an upper drying baffle having a cylindrical form and extending downwardly below said upwardly extending chlorination baffle that defines a drying gas collection annulus between said vessel wall and said upper drying baffle;
- g) means for adding drying gas to said regeneration vessel at a location below said upper drying baffle;
- h) a partition separating said outer annular mixing chamber and said drying gas collection annulus and defining a plurality of holes for communicating drying gas from said gas collection annulus to said outer annular mixing chamber;
- i) at least two nozzles for injecting a chlorine containing compound into the bottom of said outer annular mixing chamber; and,
- j) means for withdrawing catalyst particles from said regeneration vessel below said upper drying baffle.
- 7. The regeneration vessel of claim 6 wherein a tee at the inner end of each nozzle defines two circumferentially directed outlets for said chlorine containing compound.
- 8. The regeneration vessel of claim 7 wherein said upper drying baffle surrounds a central drying cylinder to define a drying annulus above a lower drying baffle, said lower drying baffle has a cylindrical form that defines a central drying chamber about its inside and a drying gas inlet chamber between its inside and the wall of said vessel and wherein a nozzle directly communicates with said drying gas inlet chamber to provide said means for adding drying gas.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein an upper cooling baffle is located below said lower drying baffle and said upper cooling baffle has a cylindrical form surrounding a central cooling cylinder to define a cooling annulus between said upper cooling baffle and said central cooling cylinder and a cooling gas collection annulus between said vessel wall and said upper cooling baffle that communicates directly with a cooling gas outlet nozzle to withdraw cooling gas from said regeneration vessel and wherein a lower cooling baffle having a cylindrical form defines a central cooling chamber about its inside and a cooling gas inlet chamber between its inside and the wall of said vessel and a nozzle directly communicates with said cooling gas inlet chamber to provide cooling gas.
