Claims
- 1. A process for preparing a crystalline aluminosilicate, wherein said crystalline aluminosilicate is characterized by an x-ray diffraction pattern as follows:

- wherein W represents a weak relative intensity, M represents a medium relative intensity and VS represents a very strong relative intensity, the process comprising the steps of:
- forming a mixture comprising silica, alumina, water, a source of alkali metal, and a source of tetraethylammonium cation, wherein said mixture exhibits a composition in terms of mole ratios as follows:
- ______________________________________ SiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 >120 TEA.sup.+ /SiO.sub.2 0.2-0.95 H.sub.2 O/SiO.sub.2 20-300 OH.sup.- /SiO.sub.2 0.4-0.7______________________________________
- wherein TEA.sup.+ is said tetraethylammonium cation; and
- maintaining said mixture at an elevated temperature so as to provide a crystalline aluminosilicate having a surface area of greater than or equal to about 300 M.sup.2 /g.
- 2. A process according to claim 1, wherein said elevated temperature is between about 150.degree. C. to about 170.degree. C.
- 3. A process according to claim 1, wherein said alkali metal is sodium.
- 4. A process according to claim 1, wherein said mixture exhibits a composition in terms of mole ratios as follows:
- ______________________________________ SiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 >200 TEA.sup.+ /SiO.sub.2 0.4-0.6 H.sub.2 O/SiO.sub.2 30-100 OH.sup.- /SiO.sub.2 0.55-0.65______________________________________
- 5. A process according to claim 1, wherein said mixing step comprises the step of mixing an aqueous solution of sodium silicate, a solution of tetraethylammonium hydroxide, and an aqueous solution of an aluminum salt so as to form said mixture.
- 6. A process according to claim 5, wherein said mixing step further includes mixing an acid solution with said aqueous solution of sodium silicate, said solution of tetraethylammonium hydroxide and said aqueous solution of aluminum salt so as to provide a desired mole ratio of OH.sup.- /SiO.sub.2.
- 7. A process according to claim 6, wherein said desired mole ratio of OH.sup.- /SiO.sub.2 is about 0.61.
- 8. A process according to claim 7, wherein said mixture is maintained at said elevated temperature for a crystallization time of less than or equal to about 48 hours so as to provide a crystalline aluminosilicate which is substantially pure ZSM-12 zeolite.
- 9. A process for preparing a crystalline aluminosilicate having an x-ray diffraction pattern as follows:

- wherein the process comprises the steps of providing a mixture comprising silica, alumina, water, a source of alkali metal and a source of tetraethylammonium cation, wherein said mixture exhibits a composition in terms of mole ratios as follows:
- ______________________________________ SiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 >120 TEA.sup.+ /SiO.sub.2 0.2-0.7 H.sub.2 O/SiO.sub.2 20-300 OH.sup.- /SiO.sub.2 0.4-0.7______________________________________
- wherein TEA.sup.+ is said tetraethylammonium cation; and
- maintaining said mixture at an elevated temperature so as to provide a crystalline aluminosilicate which is substantially pure ZSM-12 zeolite with surface area greater than about 300 M.sup.2 /g.
- 10. A process according to claim 9, further comprising the step of maintaining said mixture at said elevated temperature for a period of time of less than or equal to about 48 hours.
- 11. A process according to claim 9, wherein said mixing step comprises the steps of mixing said silica, alumina, water and source of alkali metal so as to provide said mixture having a ratio of OH.sup.- /SiO.sub.2 of greater than about 0.65, and subsequently adding an acid so as to reduce said ratio of OH.sup.- /SiO.sub.2 to about 0.61, whereby said step of maintaining said mixture at elevated temperature provides a crystalline aluminosilicate which is substantially free of mordenite, cristobalite, and ZSM-5 zeolite.
